Khabib Nurmagomedov and Rafael do Anjos are set to square off at UFC on Fox 11, in a battle between two top 10 155ers. The news came after a struggle to find an opponent for ‘The Eagle’, fortune favored the surging Sambo master as dos Anjos was left without an opponent after Rustam Khalibov dropped out of UFC 170, and RDA was more than happy to take the bout with Nurmagomedov.

The Russian lightweight is 21-0 with his most recent promotional win coming in the form of a decision against Pat Healy at UFC 165. RDA is riding a five-fight UFC win streak at present and resides in the number six spot at lightweight; one spot above his new opponent. It comes as quite a surprise to learn that the two will meet on the prelim section of the Fox 11 card.

A fight between two top fighters that could arguably set either up for a title shot is on the undercard, and it’s even stranger that Donald Cerrone will get on to the main card. ‘Cowboy’ lost a lopsided decision to dos Anjos, and it would seem his name alone is what puts his bout with Edson Barboza on the main card.

It seems even more puzzling that a middleweight scrap between Brad Tavares and Yoel Romero beats ‘The Eagle’ vs. RDA to the main card. Check out the full line up for UFC on Fox 11:
