Preview to UFC 148, can Sonnen finish what he started at UFC 117?
Posted on June 21, 2012, 02:08 PM by Mike SearsonThis short video, below, hearkens back to August 7, 2010 at UFC 117. Anderson Silva faced Chael Sonnen to defend the UFC Middleweight Title and the fans were treated to an all-out beat-down in the Octagon at the hands of Sonnen.
In round one, Sonnen took Silva down after blasting him and dominated him, completely in that round as well as the following three. In the fifth round, Sonnen caught Silva with a left hook and immediately established top position. At the three-minute mark, Silva came back and locked a triangle armbar on Sonnen, forcing the challenger to submit at 3:10 of Round 5.
According to an article posted on MMAJunkie at the time, Silva was hit more in that one fight (289 times) than he had been in his entire career (208 times). Had "the Spider" not pulled off that armbar in the final minutes of round 5 without a stoppage by "The People's Champ"; Silva would have lost the fight and his title.
Fallout from the fight included a cracked rib for Silva. The champ had gone in with a rib injury against doctor's orders and Sonnen made it worse; keeping Silva out of the Octagon until the following February when he knocked out Vitor Belfort in Las Vegas.
From the other corner, Sonnen tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs:an elevated testosterone to epitestosterone ratio. Sonnen's test results and immediate CSAC suspension caused UFC President Dana White to revoke the promise of a rematch. White rescheduled the rematch after the self-proclaimed "Gangster from West Linn" proved himself, again in the promotion's eyes with back-to back wins over Brian Stann and Michael Bisping after his suspension was served.
On July 7 at UFC 148 in Las Vegas, Sonnen promises to finish what he started. Sonnen is known for his trashtalking. Is this just more talk or does he have what it takes to finish "the Spider"?

Yes
THIS HAPPENED!!!
I wanna see Silva get beat up badly , but then pull off a submission or a flash KO at the end of the fight.
So everything will stay perfect in MMA world :
1-Silva will keep his belt and the best P4P spot
&
2- Sonnen will keep thinking he is a better fighter ,an will keep talking shit about Silva to entertain and make us laugh ! :D
Finish what? Cheatie will either be tapping or out cold by the end of the 2nd round. I think you meant to say: Will Cheat go unconscious this time around?
tap out bit** i love it!! cant wait ill be there!
Chael can pop all the viagra & cialis he wants to but it wont be no humpfest this time. Silva by tko round 1
Well to be honest silva has problems with wrestlers that are good and has been lucky enough to escape those fights with masterful bottom game. if you look at the stats everything points to sonnen dethroning him if you consider there last fight. But if you look at it logically the real factor is silva was injured and probably in a lot of pain and trouble breathing. Sonnen was jacked up on TRT. I like both fighters and really don't care who wins, i just want it to be a good fight but with that said i am going with sonnen for the W only reason is i feel silva is getting complacent in his position of power and has all this added pressure to perform for his country and that is draining in its self.
Good video
5 more rounds of punishing G&P by the American Gangster, but this time he leaves with the belt.
He barely & i mean barely beat Bisping. Chael can talk all the shit he wants but if Silva's healthy its nighty night for your boy.
I had Chael taking this one at frist then I saw a Silva interview and he looked motivated an healthy so now i have silva... I guess the winner will be defined when Anton makes his pick....
No that Fedor has retired Brasil is the new M1_Global_Gangster
I shall be called Brasil_Gangster!...hahaha good one Bruce.
Chael has the psycological edge, he also has the wrestling edge, where as anderson has the submission and standup edge.
Anderson on paper has more ways to win the fight especially if he comes in healthy. He has had so much time to work on take down defence and has proven how quickly he can knock his opponents out.
Chaels take down attempts take alot of gas from the tank in a 5 rounder. Thats where Chael runs a risk in this fight.
I'm predicting a silva victory either by knockout or submission. It won't go to a decision.
One thing for sure is that Chael is not going to stand on the outside and get picked apart by anderson. He will make a fight of it. His risk is getting caught coming in or on the ground
