Poll: Will Conor McGregor Silence All Of His Doubters?

It’s safe to say that interim featherweight champion Conor McGregor has taken over the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) like no other has, and much of that has been due to his absolutely mastery of trash talk and unparalleled fight promotion skills.

But he’s also backed it up in the cage as one of the best 145-pound fighters on the planet, dispatching six straight opponents in the UFC since making his debut in April 2013. He’s done so in largely dominant fashion, finishing five of those six opponents and winning the interim belt with a second round stoppage of top contender Chad Mendes at July ‘s blockbuster UFC 189.

Yet there is no small number of doubters about McGregor’s title reign, who believe that the ‘Notorious’ was babied and protected with hand-picked opponents during his insanely fast run to title contention. Indeed, he beat Dennis Siver to get his shot at gold, and there are excuses that his detractors point to at every turn.

They say he hadn’t faced a wrestler, and then cite the fact that Mendes only had two weeks to prepare for their short notice fight when he did. They say that his next best win was over Dustin Poirier, a fighter who was draining himself cutting down to 145 pounds and has now looked resurgent back at lightweight.

There may be some truth to those schools of thought; yet again, McGregor may just be that good regardless. Either way, we’re (hopefully) going to find out just how good he is when he finally faces dominant champion Jose Aldo in the main event of December 12’s UFC 194.

With that massive bout on the horizon, do you believe McGregor will silence all those who doubt his ability to be champion?
