Last night (Sat., October 3, 2015) Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson waged all-out war in the main event of UFC 192 from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, and the result was an instant classic light heavyweight championship bout that will most certainly go down in history as one of the best ever.

Ultimately Cormier retained his title in wholly impressive and inspiring fashion, surviving a jarring third round knee and a following uppercut that nearly had the titleholder finished for the first time in his 18-fight MMA career. He was surprisingly taken down by the taller Swede, as well.

But “DC” showed the heart of a true champion in the end, persevering even though gassed to batter the tough-as-nails challenger in the fifth round to earn a thin split decision victory. Gustafsson has now lost three of his four fights, but two of those losses are split decisions in title fights that have been legendary scraps against two of the world’s best pound-for-pound talents.

That should still leave “The Mauler” in prime position for a fighter needing a win, as his efforts even in losing will be remembered. But most of the credit on the night will go Cormier, who has lost to Jon Jones, beat Anthony Johnson, and beat Gustafsson to cap off an amazing 2015.

How do you view Cormier vs. Gustafsson among the best all-time light heavyweight championship bouts? Is it the best, is it in the top five, or is it only a good fight?
