Poll: Should Dan Henderson Retire After Latest KO Loss?

It was a tough night for fans of Dan Henderson at UFC Fight Night 77, as the former two-weight Pride FC champion suffered the third knockout loss of his career in the main event. Having already been starched by Vitor Belfort the last time they fought in Brazil in 2013, this makes it the fourth time Hendo has been finished in the last six fights. ‘DC’ choked ‘Dangerous Dan’ when they fought at UFC 173, and Gegard Mousasi stopped the ageing MMA legend with strikes this past January.

As is always the case for fighters that have been in the game for a while, every bout is a possible retirement fight. For Hendo, he does have a couple fights left on his contract, but is it really worth fighting on at this stage? Undoubtedly well in to the twilight years of his career at 45, Henderson’s victory over Tim Boetsch showed flashes of his former brilliance, but it’s clear that the American wrestler’s chin is starting to take too much abuse after 18 years of competing.

So what’s left for Hendo to prove after 45 fights and multiple wrestling medals? Nothing of course, but it’s likely he’ll drop down a tier in terms of competition and see out his remaining bouts. Do you think Hendo should keep going in the quest of just a couple more victories, or should he call it quits and hang up the gloves while he can still have his health in later life?
