NSAC's Kizer to Silva: If you do that again, you are done in Nevada

It was reported yesterday that Chael Sonnen's head trainer, Scott McQuarry was appealing his fighter's loss to UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva at UFC 148 on several grounds. The Nevada State Athletic Commission's director, Keith Kizer, said there were no grounds for an appeal, but that does not mean that the Champion is in NSAC's good graces.

The buildup to UFC 148 was characterized by a bitter rivalry, the likes of which had never been seen in the history of MMA.Sonnen's trash talking became legendary to the point where some felt that he crossed the line. For his part, Anderson Silva remained quiet about it until the final two weeks. It culminated in Silva throwing a shoulder into Sonnen at last Friday's weigh-in.

Kizer, who spoke to both fighters on behalf of the commission after Saturday night's title fight, stated to MMAJunkie.com that he was "very unhappy with Anderson" due to his actions at Friday's weigh-ins. However, it was Sonnen who convinced him and NSAC chairman Skip Avansino to drop the matter. According to Kizer: "I said look, 'What's your view? What's your level of outrage, so to speak?' And he was very forgiving I've got to give him a lot of credit. He basically said to me that he wasn't looking for any kind of serious discipline against Anderson, that he'd forgiven him. He wasn't even sure if it was premeditated by Anderson. He was very gracious, very forgiving.  Chael willing to forgive Anderson went a long way with me and the chairman. He was very honorable, perhaps more than he needed to be, towards Anderson. He definitely doesn't need me to fight his battles. Hopefully, we'll never see anything like that again from Mr. Silva."

Kizer then turned to Silva and said: "I told him if you ever do anything like that again you will not be invited to fight in Nevada again."

Kizer then said: "Anderson had some very lame excuse initially about, 'Oh, well, Chael put his head down at the beginning of that,' I'm like, 'C'mon, that's silly.' and then he said, 'Well, I'm upset about what he said about my wife.' I said, 'Look, I understand that, but that's not an excuse for doing what you did. It's inexcusable what you did.'

"The chairman pointed out that he should be above that, that this was a very unprofessional thing to do. (Silva) wasn't very happy with us pointing that out to him, but he understood. I finally had to say to him, 'Look, if you ever, despite your previous record with us as a good licensee, if you ever do anything like this again, that's it for you in Nevada. You'll be fighting your fights elsewhere.'

"I think that got to him. Then he let down his guard and apologized and said he shouldn't have done that, and was angry about Chael's comments about his wife."

Kizer said that he noticed Silva had rubbed Vaseline off his face and onto his body before the fight and that it was "more blatant that we expected." He said referee Yves Lavigne was quick to towel down Silva before the first round, adding: "if the next few Anderson Silva fights don't happen in Nevada, it won't bother me in the least."

Vaseline, grabbing shorts, thigh to the face, cheap shoulder shot at the weigh in, upkick to Okami, and disrespect within the cage when fighting Maia.

I'm just wondering whether Chael let the shoulder incident slide himself, or whether uncle Dana stepped in and told Chael to let it slide. Chaels always been a tough guy however, so he probably thought to himself the first shot is free.

Keith Kizer did nothing.....Either you break a rule or you don't. And if you break a rule there should be punishment. Anderson just made a mockery of the commission. I acted like a punk and got away with it.

Please just stop..Stop. Your sour grape face is ridiculous. You are just a fan..just a fan as I am. Meaning you deserve to be entertained. This is the FIGHT business things are going to happen in the physical sense from time to time.

Listen Chael is a good fighter(Wrestler - with developing strikes along with subs) but he is so much more gracious than his " FANS".

You believe any of those things that you listed above would change the fact that AS beat those gentlemen?

Nope you can give them all as many shots as you like and AS will beat them every time.

Ya it's a good business move to protect the guy who hasn't lost in 6 years including 10 title defenses.

Have you heard of loyalty? Seniority?

If you were enjoying Chael's over the top way of marketing this fight through attempts at character assassination, national segregation, family insults and so forth are you really going to complain about the way things ended up?

It's like you're saying " Hey he defended himself!!!That's not fair!"

Come on man - either change your attitude or change your name - because you are making a mockery of the "Enjoylife" name.

Sonnen is quieter than his "fans"because all of them are just crybabies on keyboards like it was said over two years ago.

Bet if they had to get in the ring and answer for all the stupid things they say, they'd be pretty quiet too.

@Nemesis, and Japanegro. I'm a huge Sonnen fan. And I would say anything I want to anyone's face about that fight. What you said doesn't even make sense. And you'd be surprised how many of us Sonnen fans aren't just fans. And do participate in the sport, or at least in practice. That being said, I haven't complained about the rule breaking. Only that the stoppage was early. And that Silva was punching Chaels guard, and they weren't getting through to his head. Josh Rosenthal should have been the ref of that fight, and probably every title fight there is. With the exception of John Mcarthy also.

Vaseline, grabbing shorts, thigh to the face, cheap shoulder shot at the weigh in, upkick to Okami, and disrespect within the cage when fighting Maia.

Are you also denying Kizer did nothing?

Are you also denying Anderson acted like a punk at the weigh in and on other occasions in the octagon?

I'm just stating what happened and asking why people keep loving anderson so hard when he has not always been gracious.

You have the right to your opinion and many people have responded with so many excellent responses to answer you.

It's just that it comes across as complaining and through the entire Sonnen campaign we heard so much complaining from the man himself - I think that when it comes to his fans we are done listening to it.

The fight happened Silva won - twice - let's moving on.

They just had to say something, part of the program, no big deal.

This whole experience was probably good for Anderson. This is the first time we've seen him pumped up for a fight. He won convincingly and he'll be better for it.

if the shoulderstrike is such a big deal they should also handle personal insults like the ones sonnen adressed towards silva and his family the same way. I'm not saying silva acted the right way...but neither did sonnen...promotion or not. why only take action against physical incidents?

Yeah Silvaisking, you can be but there are two types of comments here.

    There is:

    1) Nogeira tried to feed a carrot to a bus; I want Anderson's wife to make me a steak, Silva absolutely sucks, He's the champ but I'm the best; I am the real champ, in what alternate universe.......

    And there is:

    2) I'm going to knock out all his teeth, I'm going to beat him like his parents should have, I'm going to break his arms and his legs, They will have to carry him out of the cage

Which ones constitute verbal assult to you?

anyone notice how Nike designed Silvas shorts for the fight ?

Looked like they had grip on them, to help him with his hips when he was on the bottom. I dont think thats illegal yet, but it sure looked like a advantage to me.

Just saying Nike is always looking for new ways to make there clothes performance enhancing. Im gonna start paying attention to shorts, i could see more of this type of stuff in the future.

That's rediculous. Words are just words. So it was ok to Anderson that Chael said the same thing about his wife, country, etc etc. and he didn't have a problem with it until almost 2 years later? Chael just kept repeating the same things over and over. Anderson was just trying to intimidate him.

My opinion about the weigh-ins is that Anderson acted in the wrong. Even though he shoulder checked the man he was about to fight, he still did it outside the octagon. There is no difference in him doing that and going out and hitting a fan who is talking smack to him other than Chael is trained to defend himself, for the most part anyways. I was pulling for Chael to win and I'm a big fan of his, but Anderson doesn't deserve to be punished for what he did. In the 1st round, Chael put him on his back, and slammed his shoulder into Anderson's chin about 5 times, so you could call that pretty even considering the difference in how much harder Anderson hits them Chael.

I think it's funny how some are trying to make it look like Anderson dominated the fight when in reality it was heading the same way the 1st fight did. Chael took him down 6 seconds into the fight, hit on him for the entire round, and then came out in the 2nd and put his back to the cage until the end of the fight. Anderson would have been on his back again if it wasn't for him holding on to Chael's shorts for as long as he did. It was the only thing that kept him on his feet and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to watch it again. Chael made a small mistake, the same as he did in the 1st fight, and Anderson did exactly what great champions do and capitalized on it. And IMO, even though he got stopped in the 2nd round, Chael is the guy to beat Anderson. But give Vitor or Munoz the next title fight. I know no one likes to watch the same two people fight 3 times whenever one guy has a 2-0 advantage, but Chael has dominated 26 1/2 minutes out of the 27 minutes they have fought, so them fighting for a 3rd time isn't the same as most cases. When I say dominated, I mean he has controlled every move Silva has tried to make. Even though he got finished twice, it isn't like he got dominated for every second they have been in the octagon together. And I'm saying this from a fight fan's perspective. I think they have built a good rivalry over the past couple of years and have made it entertaining since day one. So let's see it for a 3rd time. Just make Chael work his way back up like he had to do after the 1st fight. My hats off to Silva though. He did what he had to do to win convincingly and proved why he is the champ. Even though he got put on his back for the entire 1st round, he didn't let it faze him

Well...you do have to consider something that might have crossed through Anderson´s mind as well....Chael´s a one trick pony....Yes...at the beginning of the round he got taken down....he does not want to be there because his options of attack are more limited....but to be quite frank...Anderson was never in danger of being submitted or knocked out...he gave him half guard and he gave him full mount...if Anderson would think he was in trouble of being finished...he would´ve struggled to gain guard or tried to power out of that position. Anderson rested when Chael was on top of him. Chael cannot and will never be able to finish Anderson...so Anderson just simply doesn´t spend extra energy if he´s taken down.

To be honest, i don't get it.......we didn't see anything in that fight we haven't see in many previous fights.......so why the issue now?? Weigh in skirmishes have been around as long as there has been weight divisions........i've seen grabbing shorts (you are allowed to grab your own shorts of course but not those of your opponent) in a thousand MMA fights before this one and seen it punished by nothing more than a telling off from the ref.........As for the knee, it was technically legal.......a good strike......timed well if you ask me........so again.......what's the issue?? It seems to me that Sonnen has supporters in the CSAC that were obviously very disappointed with his loss........All of a sudden, weigh in skirmishes are "unacceptable"........grabbing your opponents shorts is "the crime of the century".........and....... a well timed, well placed, LEGAL knee to the chest, like the one used by Rashad Evans to finish Tito Ortiz,........is ALMOST cheating???!!.....WTF?!......ALMOST?........and it's a big offence to "almost" cheat now.........LMAFAO........you can not punish or slander anyone for "almost" cheating.........it's absurd........Silva is still the man it's as simple as that.........and he has proven so once again...........credit to Sonnen for being the only fighter to ever 'manhandle' Silva the way he did, for what turned out to be, in the end, 5 and a half rounds.........that alone, against Silva, is an acheivement...........can't wait to see what's next for Silva.......

But every body talks about how Chale beat up anderson for five rounds, while hi had a 16 to 1 ratio of Testosterone level, which by the way made him ILLEGAL to fight!!!!. I guess the only way he can beat Silva is by taking performance drugs to help him be a better fighter. Chale fans stop crying and move on!!.

White told Rome something interesting that Sonnen told him privately after the post-fight press conference:

"This is what Chael Sonnen said to me after the fight. He didn't say it at the press conference, but he said it to me. He said, 'I have so much respect for this guy, Dana. I've been competing in combat sports since I was seven years old. In that first round, when I was on top of him, hitting' him with those big elbows, I felt him break. I broke him in that first round. He came back in the second round and destroyed me. I've never seen anybody do that, ever.'"

As for Kizer.. Who cares if he doesn't ever fight in Vegas again...Is your lost. Anderson has the rest of the world to fight in..

I'm not schooled in every martial arts so I'm asking this question to the collective member of the forum...

In your years of training in the various different discipline of martial arts who here have learned to strike with your thigh? Not at a thigh but WITH your thigh?

This is a ****ing joke. They allow sonnen to cheat and break the law and still come back and fight. Meanwhile the best fighter on the planet fakes a shoulder strike and they want to crusify him. What a ****ing joke. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. What a travesty.
