New Picture Shows Anderson Silva Back In The Gym Without Crutches

Anderson Silva had the worst year of his storied career in 2013, losing his coveted Middleweight belt and ending his incredible UFC streak. The icing on the preverbal cake was the nasty broken leg that ‘The Spider’ suffered during his UFC 168 rematch with champion Chris Weidman.

Estimates for Silva’s recovery period from such an injury have ranged from one or two years, with a fair amount of calls for his retirement included. Judging by this recently released picture of Silva, things could be a lot worse:

Props to Front Row Brian for the instagram pic there, showing the former Middleweight champion back in the gym, for the first time without crutches. Jon Jones recently said that Silva should retire and become a motivational speaker, it looks like those sage words of advice went unheard. The real question is can Silva’s leg take the strain when it comes to full training?

Injuries have a much bigger impact than just lay offs, for Silva especially this is evident. Will he be able to throw leg kicks again? Will he even be able to take a leg kick? So many questions that won’t be answered in the near future, although one thing is still clear; Anderson Silva still has the fire to return.

All he has wanted to know since the injury is when he would be able to train and fight again. If Silva is able to return and make a serious impact in the UFC, this could well be one of the biggest ever MMA comebacks, and these pictures may well be the start of it.
