Nate Diaz: Some People ‘S— Too Much UFC D—,’ And They ‘Where’ Cowboy Hats

Ranked at No. 5 following his knockout win over Gray Maynard at last November’s The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 18 Finale, UFC lightweight Nate Diaz found himself in prime bargaining position despite the fact that he had lost his previous two bouts to Benson Henderson and Josh Thomson.

A litany of interesting challenges was potentially on the horizon for Diaz, but he instead chose to ask for his release from the UFC when he decided they weren’t paying him nearly enough for his services.

He was removed from the official UFC rankings list for “inactivity,” and he hasn’t been seen nor heard from much since. That is, unless you count Twitter, because the polarizing Diaz shows up with some quality quotes on social media time and again.

At odds with the UFC brass, Diaz took to the web last night to blast a former opponent in Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, the hard-nosed kickboxer who fights more than anyone in the Octagon, earning him the reputation of a company man who delivers.

Diaz doesn’t agree with “Cowboy’s” strategy, however, and called him out in a rather rude way on Twitter:

Despite his lack of grammar, Diaz has outdone perhaps even himself on this one. He has some leverage in the situation because he famously battered Cerrone en route to a unanimous decision win at UFC 141.

Diaz also followed that up with an impressive submission win over Cerrone’s UFC Fight Night 45 opponent Jim Miller. The streak earned Diaz a title shot at then-champ Henderson, but that was when his slide began.

Now he’s on the sidelines, talking trash when he could be making money fighting in his athletic prime. Maybe the UFC isn’t paying enough, but whatever they’re willing to part with is definitely more than nothing.
