Michael Bisping Has Successful Surgery On Detached Retina; Eyes Cung Le Bout In October

With seeming never-ending middleweights calling out Michael Bisping, it appears that they’ll all have to wait awhile to get their crack at the outspoken Brit. Apparently it’s been quite the tough week for Bisping, who beat Alan Belcher at UFC 159 with a rare technical decision after poking Belcher in the eye. But it’s Bisping whose eye needs repair according to Ariel Helwani, who reported the following on “UFC Tonight”:

After the Belcher fight, his eye was bothering him quite a lot. He actually lost all peripheral vision in his right eye and he actually went to see a eye doctor on Tuesday of last week who told him he had a detached retina and he had to have surgery that week. The problem was that he had a scheduled cortisone epidural shot in his spine on Wednesday to fix that nagging neck problem. So he got that done on Wednesday. On Thursday, he went to the eye doctor and had the surgery on his eye to fix the detached retina.

Bad news for the many looking to fight Bisping, including Luke Rockhold, Costa Philippou, Rich Franklin, and Cung Le. Helwani said that Bisping is most interested in fighting Le because he has the most recognizable name of the bunch. Helwani continued:

He should be fully recovered in the next few months, he’s hoping to return in around October or so.

The guy who probably interests him the most right now is Cung Le. Big name, over .500 in the UFC, has that sort of crossover appeal because of the movies he’s done.

So Michael Bisping is recovering from some successful medical procedures. He’ll surely have no shortage of contenders once he makes a successful return to the Octagon
