Michael Bisping: I want to prove Chris Weidman I'm the true #1 Contender
Posted on July 13, 2012, 09:25 AM by Anton GurevichUFC veteran Michael "The Count" Bisping has once again put his name in the mix for a shot at the UFC Middleweight title, this time calling out Chris Weidman. Bisping admitted Weidman "looked great" against Mark Munoz, but still stated that he's the true number one contender:
Weidman looked great last night. But no1 contender? If that's the case I want to fight him and prove I'm the number 1 contender.Let's do it
— michael (@bisping) July 12, 2012
Michael Bisping is 12-4 in his UFC campaign, losing to Rashad Evans, Dan Henderson, Wanderlei Silva, and Chael Sonnen. "The Count" not once stated that he feels Dan Henderson is the only man to ever truly defeat him, calling for robbery in fights with Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva. Here's what Michael Bisping said in his recent interview with ESPN.co.uk:
"I don't know [if I get the next shot]. I've asked Dana, I've asked Joe Silva. I don't know. Dana called me after the Sonnen fight and I asked him, 'Where does this leave me in terms of the title?'. He said to me, 'In fairness Mike, you won the fight.' Not that he sent me my win bonus! Since Dan Henderson, I haven't lost a fight. The Wanderlei fight I was robbed of a decision, the Chael fight I was robbed, so it's going back to 2009. If you take those out, I haven't lost in seven or eight fights."
Bisping was originally scheduled to face Tim Boetsch at UFC 149, but was forced to pull out of the fight due to knee injury. Tim Boetsch will face Hector Lombard instead, while Michel Bisping is currently without an opponent.

Comments
Would be a good fight, I see Weidman still beating Bisping quite handily. He did look good during the Sonnen fight.
though*
Make It Happen! Bisping vs Weidman!
It is perfect timing on Bisping's part though. Dana just said he was blown away by Weidman. Bisping says ok "how would you feel if I beat him then"
I think Bisping would win. He has great striking, great takedown defense, and he's great at getting back to his feet when he is taken down. I think he would outstrike Weidman and win a decision.
That said, I don't think Bisping has a chance in hell of beating the Champ. His strength is striking and that's not that right strength to beat Silva. Weidman, on the other hand has a very real chance to beat Silva, because he has great wrestling as well as submission skills that Sonnen did not bring to the table.
I hope Weidman gets a shot now without having to fight Bisping. Bisping can fight Alan Belcher and then the winners can fight.
Bisping is such a kiss ass....can I can I can I...please Daddy Dana can I fight Weidman.
He is so full of crap....
He is coming out of a loss...Its his fault for leaving it up to the judges. A loss is a loss. Dana is just feeding him BS and what he wants to hear, like a baby when it cries, give it milk.
Whatever....Belcher can fight him next...then he can fight the winner of either Weidman and Silva or Lombard and whoever he is fighting...
Every time he opens his mouth he solidifies why people think he's a douche. The biggest robbery of his career was the Hamel fight, and Hamel was the robee.
I'm not a Bisping fan, but I honestly do not see anything wrong with what he said regarding Weidman. Should he or Weidman get a title shot at this point? absolutely not.
Underdog, your opinion is the same as always, pessimistic, useless, and retarded
So who deserves it?
Sure.
What? What? I can't read or hear anything over these Oakley ads!
He clearly lost two of three rounds against Wanderlei. Wanderlei got guillotine choke in one of the rounds end and got ko in the last round end.
I agree. Anyone who thought Bisping won that fight is retarded.
wtf? robbed vs wanderlei? no way! the chael fight could have went either way but wanderlei beat him fair and square.
Its ok xmurder, some of us understand.
I don't even think the fight with Chael could have gone either way. He got robbed on that one. Wandy clearly won though.
Bisping is no longer a contender, he is coming off a loss and is a gatekeeper. I just hope Dana just scoffs and brushes bispings words off his shoulders. Time to focus on new talent, Weidmen, Lombard, and possibly Rashad if he moves down to middleweight. Shoo Bisping shoo!
Just a gatekeeper? IMO he beat the #2 MW
fortunately your opinion is on an MMA website, and doesn't matter the least bit in the real world.
No, he lost to #2, get over it.
Your opinion is good and all, it just doesn't jive with the majority opinion (let alone the actual outcome of the event).
all hail master of opinions
Then why do you post comments on mma websites?
Neither does your opinion matter.
Then why do you post comments on this website Hunter? And you are on the list as one of the most active users too. Get outa my site fool.
Bisping isn't afraid to talk the talk and call people out, some people may see it as douchebaggery but you have to respect his confidence in his fighting skills.
Most fighters, especially British, are avoiding being matched up with top level wrestlers yet Bisping called out and fought Sonnen and is now trying to get a fight with "All-American" Weidman.
Bisping is pretty brave calling him out after what he did to Munoz. Personally, I see it as a travesty that he wasn't the guy fighting Silva last week. He clearly beat Sonnen. I say give him the Wiedman fight. The winner of thet fight would have the best claim to #1 contender status in my book.
I use to switch to watch the women's badminton competition when Mr Backpedal was fighting, but I must admit he developed a lot and his packing some heat now. Still not to sure if he won't be served the humble pie by master chef Wiedman :]
I think this article is already flooded with users being tea bagged on a daily basis by Bisping. The dude is on a 1 fight losing streak.
Bisping deserves a fight vs someone who just lost as well, to think otherwise is just a ridiculously bias opinion.
Exactly...
lol
I like the match up. Make it happen Joe!
Bisping has beaten no fighter with any real credentials in his entire career yet he still remains at the top of the heap for some reason. he's not even in my top 5.
Bisping should fight Stann (at best), if not, Okami or someone in that tier.
Completely agree.
But he brings in viewers so it probably won't happen.
I think everyone is getting carried away with the new rockstar status of the MW division. Rightfully so the ranks are pretty awesome about now.
Here's what I think... By virtue of time spent in the division and compiling convincing win-loss records. Bisping and Belcher should be matching up. They are at the top of the heap and been making their case for a while. Mark Munoz was never that impressive and Weidman just highlighted that for us. I say Weideman moves up with his W but not any further than a fight with Brian Stann or the winner of Boestch/Lomabrd. I'm excited for Rashad to make a MW debut but he has to earn his stripes, there are plenty of money fights for him at 205 but thats not what he wants he wants to be a champ. Evans is in the same category as Sonnen coming off his loss to Jones and Franklin being Franklin fits in there as well. Sonnen should sit for 3 months and see how the division evens out. Franklin and Evans are well suited to one another looking for fresh title runs.Disagree?
All of that makes sense but there is one factor many people are not bringing to the forefront. It's the fact that all those fights take time to put together and Anderson SIlva(since he's healthy) will more than likely fight one more time before the year is out. Somebody has to fight him this year. Bisping(coming off a loss) and Belcher have the injury issue plus have one more fight each to prove they are in title contention. Evans' camp already said he's not moving down. Weidman is a good pick because timewise him and Silva just fought without injuries and he stacks up good against the champ. Lombard vs. Boescht shouldn't really have title contender implications in my opinion. Lombard would have to do something major next fight(plus come out injury free) to get the shot. The logical choice is Weidman based on those things. People act like the champ shouldn't stay active. He fought twice last year and was held back by injury to fight 3 times.
Bisping vs. Belcher for the title shot. Let Weidman fight the winner of Boetsh vs. Lombard for who is next in line after that.
Silva still has to fight in the meantime. I doubt he wants to wait for all that nor should he have to.
Silva has been taking 6 months between fights since 2007, so if Bisping and Belcher fought in the next few months, that would all be good.
And I meant the other three guys would provide his next challenger after that.
Actually, he fought 3 times in 2008 and the next 2 years he fought less due to injuries and delays. He can fight at least 1 more time this year before 6 months. Bisping and Belcher are still injured and could be injured again after their next fight. SIlva is not getting any younger and is very much in his prime. They might as well let him fight those who are ready and healthy to fight. Weidman makes sense based on timing and style. We'll see if Lombard makes sense. Other than that the timing is on the risky side for the others. In a perfect world though the matches you mentioned make sense.
somebody has to get the title shot so give it to Weidman, he is on fire...
winner of bisbing/munoz should get the next shot....
Id rather see Bisping fight Silva solely cause he is more likely to try and stand up with him and let Anderson put on a clinic for the fans. Wrestlers fighting styles often make boring fights.
the only fight I would get excited about in this division would be Silva vs. Lombard, the rest of the opponents just seem like boring matches for Silva.
Bisping - bless him Very dull fighter!
