Bisping: Fighting Anderson Silva would be a giant pain in the jaw for GSP

As UFC Middleweight contender Michael Bisping sits on the outside of the 185 lb. title scene looking in, it comes as no surprise that he is having trouble keeping his mouth shut regarding the situation. True, Bisping has dispatched most of the fighters set in his path, but it seems that he is just missing that signature win that would allow the UFC no choice but to grant him his coveted title shot. His loss to Chael Sonnen last January put his plans on hold, and now the utter speculation of who Anderson Silva will fight next has his chance at the belt up in limbo. Silva may perhaps fight Jon Jones down the line, but it seems as if his focus is on fighting Georges St. Pierre. However, this might not be GSP's view, something that Bisping touched on while speaking to MMAJunkie.com:

"It sounds to me, reading between the lines, I don't think 'GSP' is really keen on it. I think he realizes that it's not a good fight for him, to be honest. He's said it's a giant pain in the ass to always talk about Anderson Silva, and I'm sure it would be a giant pain in the jaw, as well. Who knows if they'll step up and try and fight each other?”

So Bisping thinks that Silva versus GSP would be a whitewash, with St. Pierre leaving with a painful loss on his record. Many fans and media experts agree with Bisping's sentiment, noting that the size difference in Silva's favor would be quite difficult to overcome. Bisping also thinks that there are several worthy title contenders still left for Silva at 185, but the UFC may be looking for the huge money superfights as Silva's career winds down:

"It is frustrating, but I also understand it. I understand it from Silva's perspective. I understand it from the UFC's perspective. I'll just be waiting for my shot. I think 185 pounds is the most exciting division in the UFC right now. It certainly has the best champion, and it certainly has the most challengers to the belt. There's no shortage of contenders. There's no shortage of exciting fights for me at 185. I'm privileged to be a part of it. I'm a perennial contender, I'm here, and I'm fighting the best guys. I want my shot. I'm tired. I know I've got to wait my turn, but it's pissing me off. I want to get my title shot, and if I keep beating guys, they'll have no choice but to give it to me."

Bisping's frustrations may be well-justified due to his long tenure of effective fighting within the UFC, but it may also be marred by the fact that once he faces truly top-level competition, he has lost. These losses, although few, include defeats and the hands of Rashad Evans, Wanderlei Silva, Chael Sonnen, and of course, Dan Henderson. Bisping may have a good point here surrounding his frustration, but does he truly stand a chance against the almighty Silva? Will Michael Bisping have his day against The Spider?

GSP has a reach of 76" and probably weighs around around 190.

Anderson has a reach of 77.6" and didnt even cut weight to fight at 205 and tipped the scale at 202.

GSP is 31. Anderson is 37.

1.6" reach difference, 6 year age difference, 10-15 pound weight difference.

Jones has a reach of 84.5" and probably weighs around 230.

    Jones is 25.

7" reach difference, 12 year age difference, around 30 pound weight difference.

So GSP and Silva look more evenly matched than Silva and Jones when you look at those stats. Why are people saying Silva is way bigger than gsp??

if you are insinuating that Anderson Silva naturally walks around at 202ish then either you are clueless or u are more biased that fox is against the democrats. Fact. AS walks around at 220-225 when he is not training for a fight. Another thing you forgot to add that he is 6"2. Jon Jones is 6"4 and like u said, walks around 230. In a fight, height and weight matters more than reach.

If you are insinuating that 202 was not Anderson Silva's natural weight at the time of the Bonnar fight, then you have never cut weight. Cutting weight sucks. Nobody cuts three extra pounds. The only way you weigh in at 202 is if that is your natural weight.

saying Anderson walks around at 220 when not training is misleading because GSP always keeps in good shape. If GSP let himself go a bit while not training then he could get even heavier. GSP weighs around 190 while training and Anderson weighs around 205 while training. But Jones weighs around 230 while training. Much bigger difference there.

Anderson Silvas Conditioning coach Rogerio Camoes said on Fighters Only interview that Anderson Weights 207-210 pounds at START of the camp... And go look a picture where Rory Macdonald and GSP are side to side GSP is bigger and Rory weights 200 pounds... But hes little bit taller

Maybe you shoulod rewatch the Bonnar fight dude is way bigger than GSP, he is as big as Bonnar. Them stats you throw out are probably wrong you only got to look at Silva against the LHWs to know his reach is huge for WW and big for MW and average for LHW.

Bonnar was more muscular but height and reach they looked identical. I got 20/20 vision don't need glasses thanks. You nut suckers really are something wanting Silva to fight with huge advantage against smaller fighters.

Everyone knows that Silva is the heavier, taller guy. Add this to his skill set and you have a lethal figher...GSP shouldn't take this fight...There's no shortage of old and new challengers inhis division. Silva, on the other hand, has fought at LHW and won in a spectacular way...Let him call Jones--someone of his own size! He's being selfish calling the small guy and seeking an easier fight...THat's not to say that GSP couldn't beat him, though...

If Sonnen gets a shot at Jones for doing nothing than being a shit talking smack head then Bisping is well worth a shot at Silva. I really hope we see this fight at some point cos I reckon win or lose Bisping will perform far batter against Silva than anyone gives him credit for.

For sure, Chaels cheap takedown with no damage done at the end stole him that fight. Just how many points are takedowns worth anyway?

Bisping won that fight in the Octagon but not in terms of the economics of fight business.

Good to get the Count's usual unbiased and rational point of view.

Who would you rather Silva fight, the greatest welterweight EVER or a guy who's never beat a top 5 opponent in any weight class.

I don't know if GSP could beat Silva but he'd wipe the floor with Bisping.

2 Important reason why the Silva Vs Jones fight might not happen..

    1) Bad ending to Silva's career. Not saying that Silva will retire soon BUT he is 37 going to 38 a Bad lost to Jones then his legacy might suffer.

2)A lost would seriously haunt Jones career. If Jones lose to Silva everyone will always say Silva was a better fighter, it wont matter if Jones never lose after the fight, when people debate who is greatest of all time and someone say Jones another will say "But Silva beat him".

Dana owes the fans a fight between Silva and Bones for all the dumb ass matchups we have seen recently, all the injuries, all the bullshit excuses he uses to justify fights.
