Matt Mitrione steps in to face Roy Nelson for injured Shane Carwin
Posted on November 15, 2012, 06:43 PM by Andreas HaleShane Carwin's return to the Octagon against Roy Nelson is delayed due to a knee injury he suffered during camp. This left The Ultimate Fighter Finale's main event between the two coaches in limbo. But thanks to a fighter who shared the TUF house as a competitor with Roy Nelson, we now have a main event.
TUF alumni Matt Mitrione will return to his stomping grounds to take on Roy Nelson at the TUF 16 finale in Las Vegas on December 15 at the Hard Rock Hotel. Although the bad blood brewing between Carwin and Nelson was supposed to culminate with a throwdown between the two coaches, the injury bug that has plagued Carwin struck again and forced him to pull out of the fight yesterday.
The UFC quickly scrambled to find a replacement as names such as Struve and Barry were thrown around. TUF 10 veteran Matt Mitrione, who is coming off of his first professional loss at the hands of Cheick Kongo at UFC 137. Both he and Nelson will be looking to bounce back from losses as they clash in the main event.

lets go meathead!!!
cool fight
Roy makes no attempt to hide the fact he will take an easy win if he can get it. He is going to take Matt down and blubber smother him ala kimbo. Just to piss Dana off.
I'm guessing this means Mitrione assumes this is going to be fought almost exclusively on their feet. Honestly, I'm not crushed that Carwin's out, I'll still watch this.
GTFO
Meathead took alot of criticism for turning down a fight and Roy Nelson is no joke in the cage.
This matchup may not be the most hyped but it could turn into an ugly brawl.
It's a shame about Carwin, but this should (still) be a good fight.
Roy is obviously a tough guy. He's a lot to deal with on the feet or the ground. Matt on the other hand has a lot of power, a bit of a psycho-killer way about him and is probably the most mobile HW out in The UFC. He truly is light on his feet.
I'll root for Matt in this one. He's coming off of a poor showing against Kongo and it's been over a year since we've seen him in the Octagon. He needs the win. Great that he picked up / took a short-notice fight. The management likes that sort of attitude and it's always nice to have the boss owe you one.
Carwin's out - Just part of the game, that's just the way the titty bounces - no offense to Nelson or his titties.
This fight should be sponsored by weight watchers - sorry if I have hurt the feelings of any of the comic book guys out there in internet land but this comment was meant to make the guys who train their asses laugh.
So WEAK me if you're "big boned"
YESSS!!!!!
So your implying because big country has titties he doesn't train his ass off? ....ignorant dumb ass
you have titties - due to your sensitivity - true story.
I dont even care who wins this anymore. Hope its at least a stand up war till someone gets dropped.
I like meathead, but this isn't going to go his way unless he uses his length. Roy has a bomb in his fist, plus really good ground grame, just shitty wrestling. If meathead can keep it a distance game, he has a chance.
@ Rock' em Sock'em
Fighters who train their asses? Gross...
Ya I meant guys who train their asses off.
But if we are going to argue over details The quote was "guys" as in everyday guys- MMA fans - I don't over glorify myself as a "Fighter" who train there asses off.
Is that okay with you or is that going to send your mind into more homo-erratic fantasies?
Matt will stop Nelson. Don't like the guy but think he wins this easy.
JDS can't stop Nelson but Mitrione can? and easily?
Did your parents have any kids that lived?
