Manager: Machida still believes he can beat Jon Jones, Anderson Silva wants GSP

"Let's go back to how he got this title shot. Before the August 4th fight, he wasn't mentioned to get a title shot. The reason he was mentioned to get a title shot was because Dana White mentioned that the winner of Brandon Vera and 'Shogun' would get the title shot. The fans started saying, 'Well what about Bader and Lyoto?' So, they said, 'The one with the most impressive win.' A week before that fight, he wasn't even in talks of getting a title shot. But, at the end of the day, this is gonna be the second time he faces Jon Jones.
In the UFC, any guy who's lost to the same champion, what ends up happening is they have to kind of re-invent themselves. B.J. Penn had to do it. Rich Franklin had to do it. Chael Sonnen had to do it. In his heart, he believes he can beat Jon Jones. So, if he's gonna go and fight Jon Jones, he's not gonna leave any regrets. If he went in there and lost a second time and had to re-invent himself, and, in his heart, he believed he could beat him, I think that's gonna be a thorn in his side for the rest of his life. Those were the decisions. It may just another event for the UFC, but for Lyoto, it wasn't just another fight...it was the fight of his life." - Inside MMA, via MMAMania.com
Lyoto Machida's manager, Ed Soares, spoke about his client's decision to decline the rematch with Jon Jones on short notice. Soares also discussed the fact that Lyoto Machida still believes he can beat Jon Jones, despite getting violently submitted in the first encounter between the two. Machida is expected to face Dan Henderson next, but the fight is yet to be officially announced by the UFC due to Hendo's knee injury.
Soares also discussed Anderson Silva's friendship with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, claiming that without Big Nog's tutorship, "The Spider" probably would still be flipping burgers at McDonald's. Once again, Soares mentioned that Anderson Silva is interested in fighting Georges St. Pierre, this time giving an exact number - 177.5lbs to the proposed catchweight bout between those two superstars.

ask what gsp thinks lmfao
Jones would dominate Silva HANDS DOWN
You couldn't be any more wrong, Teabagger.
Silva/ Jones
Every fight starts standing and let's not forget how much better Silva's striking is compare to Jones'. So, if that fight were to happen, Jon's only shot at winning would be to quickly take Silva to the ground. Unfortunately for him, The G.O.A.T's TDD has improved tremendously.
I have it at 65/35 Silva.
As for Anderson Silva / Georges Safe-Pierre, well, where do I start?
Chael Sonnen, Dana White's closest friend, is by far the best wrestler in MMA, can we agree with that? If he couldn't take Silva down at will and hold him down for 25 minutes in the second fight, Georges is not going to be the second one to do so, sorry. Therefore, I have it for Silva 100% : (
I agree with your assessment on GSP / Silva. Jones / Silva on the other hand I honestly do not agree. I would say it's very much 50 /50. Lets not undermine the reach advantage that Jones has. In fact, I believe Jones has a huge advantage of size and speed as well. The fact that balances the probability is that Siva is far more experienced compared to Jones. We have still not seen Jones reaction when he gets dominated for a few rounds. I fell more than skills, speed and power it is the mental conditioning of the fighter that gets him through a fight.
Chael Sonnen being the best wrestler in MMA is nothing more than a myth. Check percentages, check men they outwrestled, check their records, really check anything you want, Dominick Cruz, Jon Jones, and GSP all have much better wrestling for MMA than SOnnen.
Sonnen's is very good, but it isn't on their level (and it never was). Him having very good takedowns doesn't mean its the best in MMA.
So no, nobody should agree to that.
I actually disagree about Sonnen being the better wrestler than GSP but agree 100% about AS V Jones. I see Andy getting a TKO on Jones in the 2nd or 3rd Rd. His ground game is pretty under rated too.
The "GOAT" isn't someone who takes easy fights just for the money or drops down in weight to fight that champion. I believe Anderson has proven himself to be the greatest but doing fights like Forrest, Bonnar, and GSP aren't going to help his legacy IMO. Fight top LHW's or defend your belt, stop with the "money fights" cause all that does is make you MVP not P4P greatest. As much as I hate Jones, he's on his way to taking that title as best P4P or GOAT for his quick destruction of so many top fighters
Who knows maybe but for now Anderson is the GOAT and the according to what he has done not what might do.
Jones is awesome but who knows what will happen over the years. All I see is Anderson making anyone he fights look ridiculous - even Vitor who gave Jones a good go IMO.
I don't know about dominate but there is definitely a chance that Silva could lose this match up.
Personally if Machida were to find a way to beat Jones I would be happy.
I think Silva has enough fighters to fight left in his division and if Rashad is still interested in possibly fighting Silva I'd watch that along with Bisping and Weidman.
Not sure after watching Silva dismantle Bonnar so easily I'd care to watch him fight GSP - I don't see it going well for GSP hence it does not interest me.
Also if Jones were to come in all low as he has with other fighters Silva may catch him with a front kick and end it in the opening moments of the fight - like a Boss.
Anyone else notice the 3 guys he mentions reinventing themselves all lost again in their rematch?
First GSP and then Jones!
I hate how they are avoiding Jones

I'd be content if Anderson fought GSP or Jones. As long as a superfight happens.
But Jones only fights guys at 185 now so if not Silva then who? I guess Bisping or Weidman would be next for Jones while I am sure the UFC can find a mediocre and slow lhw for Silva to fight, maybe The Janitor next for him, he prob wouldn't want to beat up his old mentor little nog?
Sigh, what happened to the ufc and mma.....
A fight with GSP would be more competitive than most people think...that is why I think the goat should go for Jones...much better risk/reward.
Oh my god, I actually agree with everything you said. The world must be coming to an end.
I like GSP V AS. I don't think GSP has a chance but I think he is as good an opponent as anyone for Silva. That said, I also would rather see Andy beatdown Jones.
