Lauzon and Bisping respond to Jon Jones' refusal to fight Chael Sonnen, who would have fought for free

The fallout of UFC 151 being cancelled is coming down on the MMA world with a quickness, and current UFC Lightweight contender Joe Lauzon has quickly stepped up to voice his opinion. Many fighters, fans, coaches, and journalists will run to heap negative criticism upon Jon Jones and his camp, and Lauzon is no different. Speaking to MixedMartialArts.com, Lauzon expressed his opinion immediately, with strong conviction:

“Not only has this screwed over all the fans that bought tickets, non refundable airfare, took off work, made arrangements, etc... but think of all the fighters. Fighters that put in full camps, flew people in that helped them trains, etc. By the time I am actually fight, I spend close to 20k between corners, flights, expenses, coaches, etc... and then to have the whole show cancelled because ONE guy didn't want to fight. This ONE guy that had trained an entire camp, who was the CHAMP and at the top of his weight class, who was going to fight someone who didn't do the camp, and was fighting UP a weight class. I have always been a big Jon Jones supporter... but I would be FURIOUS if this happened to me and I was on the card. To call it scorched earth wouldn't do it justice.”

Lauzon speaks from the heart, and shows respect for the fans who paid their hard earned money and took time out of their schedule to go to UFC 151. He makes a good point when he focuses on the fact that Jones has gone through a full training camp, while Sonnen has not. Sonnen even offered to take the fight for free, via Twitter:

Sonnen was willing to take the fight on short notice for no money. It may have been a switch for Jones, but someone else fought Sonnen on very short notice earlier this year. Michael Bisping took to Twitter to address the situation himself:

What are your thoughts on this entire situation? Jon Jones has cost many fighters a chance to make their living at UFC 151. Many fans will incur cost as well if they planned to attend the event, especially from out of town. If Jon Jones was not the most hated man in the UFC prior to this day, does this make him public enemy number one?

So talk to Dana about letting the fights happen then instead of canceling the card. You guys are absolutely driven to crucify a guy who has no control over wether an event happens or not. This event can still happen but a bunch of cryers out there wont rest with the rest of the card. Those other fighters need to step up and bring some fame to themselves and quit crying when the main draw is their only hope for a paycheck.

No Jones did not cancel the card. Dana White did. DW done a good job of bullshitting a scapegoat for his **** up. I mean what promoter offers probably the most gifted fighter MMA has witnessed a fighter who makes ZERO sense. He isn't a contender just got his ass handed to him in his last fight yet goes from blowing a shot at 185 against an aging Silva yet somehow gets a shot at 205 against a young Jones who is better IMO and coming to his peak? Dana White de-legitimises the LHW title doing stunts like this and Jones has my respect for not being dumb enough to say yes to this insanity.

Jon jones has always run the UFC guys, so when jon jones says he doesn't want to fight, neither does anyone else.

Remember, if you don't like jon jones being the boss you can always fight for another division, fedor will fight anyone.

    Too right keith,

After the bones car crash, Dana supported Jones, offered him lucrative sponsorship prior and then he returns the favour by refusing a fight knowing that he will F*uk the complete promotion and other fighters pay days.

Jones complained about not wanting to fight Machida because of PPV numbers.. He thens gets offered the fight with the king of PPV Chael sonnen and turns it down.

jones is in camp everyday, healthy and uninjured.....makes no sense

-Sonnen is not the King of PPV. He's not even the prince. He's done one good PPV headliner. Referring to him as the king of PPV is extremely laughable.

White had a lot to lose if Jones went down the drain. One of his bigger draws that is quickly becoming the biggest emerging star in MMA. That is less than 25. He didn't "Support" Jones. He was looking out for his company. Something he forgot when Zuffa has taken the offensive.

IM SORRY BUT BISPING IS THE BIGGEST P&^%Y IN THE UFC IN MY OPINION. HE DOES NOTHING BUT RUN TO DANA ASKING FOR A SHOT AT THE TITLE WHEN HE CLEARLY LOSES WHEN HE IS SUPPOSE TO WIN. HE IS A BACKDOOR B&*(H IF YOU ASK ME.

LAUZON SHOULD OF JUST KEPT HIS MOUTH SHUT BECAUSE HE HAS HIS OWN PROBLEMS TRYING TO GET HIS OWN FAME.

MAYBE JONES SHOULD REQUEST FIGHTING BISPING. I GUARANTEE THAT BRITISH B&*&H WILL GO TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER THAT FIGHT IS OVER...

DW said himself Sonnen won't see a title shot until he defeats a top 5 LHW contender! What happen with Machida!? I know Jones said he doesn't want that fight, but this is what I mean about the Interim belts and such. Jones doesn't want to defend his belt, than strip him of it and let's see who wants it that damn bad! Ala WWE....

Chael has how many losses? Is not an established 205'er coming of a loss from a weight division down and somehow warrants a title shot? Imagine if DW had offered GSP Maynard a WW title shot straight after Edgar KO'd him? GSP wouldn't get hate for turning it down. But Jones does the sensible thing and gets hated by fools including DW who is the real wanker in all this.

Chaels wrestling is dang near unmatched in the UFC. He has the potential to give any LHW fighter and run for their money. So yes, just going off his recent record may not necessarily warrant him a title shot, but looking at his skill set certainly does..

I have to agree with Holober. There are a number of wrestlers that are better. I would add (arguably) Munoz, Weidman, Maynard and possibly even Shields. You might laugh at Shields but he did out wrestle Hendo. Hell, even Mayhem was able to control Bisping better than Sonnen.

No actually it still doesnt as his skillset the one time he tried it in the 205 division came out to be a loss for him. His skillset is good for Anderson in that Anderson can be troubled by a takedown but Jones is not troubled by a takedown as proved with Rashad. Chael has no place at a shot here.

I can't stand Jones. I think he is a total DH for not taking this fight. That said, he did not cancel this event. DW did. In the past the main event has been switched and the show has gone on. What is different here? Dana White is screwing the fans and the fighters, not Jon Jones. I seriously hope Machida KOs Jones when they fight but this is DW.

You asked what's different here? Dana seen a chance, that's what.

He sees a chance to promote Jones negatively. Jones was complaining that the Machida fight was his lowest viewed fight. Watch now as his next fight does great numbers because theres hundreds of thousands of angry MMA fans pissed at Jones because he "caused the event to be canceled".

Just watch now as they mention this repeatedly to build up hype for the event off negativity. Just like Dana did when he got pissed at Tito back in the day.

Again it is not Jones' fault that Dan got injured and I hate the champ. I'm going to need more than a week to prepare for Chael's double leg and Machida's elusiveness. Why would Chael have to have a camp? He's spent his whole life running fun speed with his head down for double legs. Come on man. I'm no fan of Chael or Bones but you guys are being a little hard on Jones. Especially some of the fans who defend Jackson and his "strategies." This is another dare I say smart "strategy" to help Jones keep his belt and win his next fight. The cancellation for the whole card is not solely his fault.

it boils down to one thing, and that is that Jones is afraid to risk his reputation. He's not mentally strong enough to handle the possibility of a loss by a presumed inferior fighter. Thats it...Period!

That is the difference between what MMA used to be and what its turning into.

You got a psychology degree or something? Fighting someone else on short notice can backfire, it has many times in MMA history. Highly unlikely that there'd be any other outcome than a dominant victory by Jones but should the highly unlikely occur then Jones would have kissed goodbye to a hell of a lot more money than one fight's purse.

There's also the fact he has been training hard for a certain style and has some big adjustments to make. As a professional you want to put in the meticulous training which Jones does. He analyses his opponents like GSP does.

Finally, why should Jones have to have a lose-lose situation that came about from circumstances he had no control over?

watched the video where Jay Hieron quoted his dad saying, if you are always prepared, you never have to get prepared. This should apply to jones here, he is prepared, yes to fight hendo, but should need no new strategy or thought to fight lyoto, and he is an accomplished wrestler, shouldnt he already know how to fight...A WRESTLER like chael. no excuses other than what turdcologne said. i used to like the guy till this. he may be champ and trying to cement a legacy, but a true champ, would step up to the plate, both for the sport, and to prove himself, if he really is confident . apparently he is not, and is too scared of losing all his "glory", instead of really fighting in the sport he claims to love so much, and putting on a show. yes, its a shame dana canceled the card, but it was mediocre without the main event. Lyoto vs Chael, if they would agree. Although Lyoto already got the title shot...why not. I never really liked Chael after his Silva trash talk , assuming he is really racist and took it too far, but the above statement by him, is as true as it gets.

And PS: How do you know it has anything to do with confidence? The guy has walked through far higher calibre fighters than Sonnen yet some wimp at a keyboard who has probably never been in a cage or boxing ring can sit there and write tosh about a guy who has more balls than most commentators on here.

im saying it sure seems like he is dodging , instead of putting on a show. he stated he can beat chael, and already beat lyoto...why not keep the show going at least, accept the fight, no ppv money is less than a lower ppv draw from fighting a different opponent. if he is so confident he can beat them, just step in and do it.

and as far as teh wimp at a keyboard comment, no, i never been in a cage, i am 39, and when i trained martial arts in my 20s mma was new, there were not cages around town, but i did go in boxing rings and did plenty of full contact sparring with 4 oz gloves, and shin padding. did a few competition tournaments.. and for sure would have done the mma game amaeteur if it was around circa 91-97, roughly the years that i played with fighting sports..

now realize i am just stating my opinion. i know jones has enough confidence to step in a cage, but its a little contradictory , to not be worried about those 2, but not take the fight. i did just read elsewhere he accepted a fight with lyoto the 22nd. not sure if that is true , if so , props.

Your point? Did he say i don't want to fight Chael because of ppv rates or something? No, he said that was the reason for Lyoto. Sure Chael brings in the cash but at the expense of a man not worthy or deserving of the shot and on top of that somebody that annoys you. So like I said he is likely doing this because Chael does not belong anywhere near him and thats that.

How many idiots fail to realise Jon Jones does not cancel cards? DW does that. He is the one to blame not Jon Jones who was offered a guy who hasn't beat anyone of note at 205 yet and is about as far away from a title shot as I am having just blown his chance against Silva. If DW puts on card that is solely dependent on one guy fighting then he is an idiot as what if Jones was the one injured and not Henderson?

But hate on folks and demonstrate to the world what low intelligence some MMA fans have. Jones was well within his rights to turn down a guy who isn't even top20 at 205.

I think every single one of those fighters who have trained very hard for their fights should get paid, except for Hendo and Jones. That said, Jones shouldn't be held responsible for what just took place, the UFC should. In my humble opinion, if Dana white and the UFC really care about their fighters as much as they've been pretending to do for the past decade, then they should find other ways to pay those fighters regardless. As for Bisping and the Tim Tebow of MMA(Chael Sonnen), well, they should both keep their thoughts to themselves.

Exactly right. Dana is quick to blame everyone else. Can't stand that guy either. Don't compare Tebow and Sonnen please though haha. And sorry the Jets are going to be so terrible this year UG haha.

Well, Tim Tebow is everything but a QB. In other words, he is mediocre at best. Also, he can only run, which makes him a one dimensional so called QB, and very popular for whatever the reasons might be. As for Cheal, he is also one dimensional and very popular for all the wrong reasons.

I am one nervous JETS fan, japenegro23, but the season hasn't started yet lol

You think he's genuine with what he said? Bisping gained respect by his fights recently but thses fighters comments are pure baby crying and Dana white knob sucking. This event should still be happening without Jones.

Well my dude, The fight could have went on and not screwed the fans if they are real fans or the fighters but because it was going to screw with Danas pocket book it was canceled and all of the fighters are mad now at jones for making the boss mad. They wont yell at the boss because of their jobs and they are only left with one vent. They just wish Jones bent over for Dana so they could all get along as they themselves don't have the stature to stand up to the boss yet.

so ur telling me you would have bought ufc 151 without the main event? i doubt it. Unless you are the most hardcore fan no1 would have bought that card. Dana is a business man, if he kept the card the UFC would have lost $$........and please dont start with the make it a free card bullshit. you cannot call Fuel or FX and tell them to put on ur show on 8 days notice those things are planned months in adavance

No all you have to do is keep it on the same channel and front the cost this time. So you are admitting then that it is money not Jones that is the issue and by money i mean money for Dana and his boys.

I understand that completely, I said front the cost on THIS event. They can make up for it later. They are swimming in cash my friend and if they want good feedback they would front this one. If you thought i didn't understand there is a need for $ in MMA then you are just reaching to find yourself some faults in me.

Sonnen is THE MAN for making that offer. His stock just went WAY UP in my book. Dana should insist that Jones take the fight.

Sonnen may have taken the challenge but alot of undeserving guys on their way out want one last chance at the belt to hopefully score a lucky win before they retire. Chuck, randy and some others would probably come out of retirement for that fight too but it is not relevant just like Sonnen in this division.

"I did... I also spit at a guy and told Matt Hamill to go back to wrestling after he held his own striking with me".

Michael Bisping, the guy who now gets respected from people who held dislike for Jones before this situation happened.

Talk is cheap, especially from a guy who don't fight at 205.

Lauzon can say that because he's never even smelled the belt. If he was the champ, he might think differently, but since that will never happen, we'll never know.

And Bisping fought Chael on short notice because he was desperate to stay relevant at 185 and hadn't beaten a top 5 guy.

Of course Chael would fight for free. I also would. I mean, he has nothing to lose. He had his ass whooped a short while ago, but still he deserves a shot at the LHW title? I like Dana, but this is ridiculous. This is not Jones's responsibility. Why would he risk everithing to fight an undeserving fighter at such short notice? He's a professional and a champion, and has much more to lose than merely the title. We are talking about sponsorships, advertising deals. He is not responsible for the other fighters not getting paid. Dana is the one to blame.

Why do irrelevant fighters (Bisping and Lauzon) get a page on Lowkick? Everyone is po'd, we got it. If I was on that UFC card I would for sure be calling Dana/JBJ/G.Jackson asking, "where's my money? IN CASH." LOL

Why aren't people yet ripping Machida for not taking a title fight?

This has been the craziest 2 days in MMA history.
