Karo Parisyan vs. Phil Baroni Booked For Bellator 122 On July 25

A booking of formerly hyped UFC castoffs will grace Bellator 122 from Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California. News comes today that former world Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) and embattled UFC veteran Karo “The Heat” Parisyan will take on outspoken slugger Phil Baroni on the July 25 card.

After dropping four out of five in late 2010-mid 2012, “The Heat” has now won three of his past four bouts, including a first round knockout of Ron Keslar at April 11’s Bellator 116 and two armbar finishes in Gladiator Challenge.

Owning wins over big names Nick Diaz and Matt Serra, the talented grappler maintains a respectable 23-10(1) record as he attempts to get his career back on track after a well-documented bout with painkiller addiction.

Baroni hasn’t fared quite as well as of late, his last fight a first round TKO loss to Nobutatsu Suzuki at ONE FC: Rise to Power in May 2013. He also lost his previous bout, a unanimous decision to Hayato “Mach” Sakurai at DREAM 18 in late 2012. All told, “The New York Bad Ass” has lost seven of his past nine bouts, making this one seem like a bit of a mismatch on paper.

However, Baroni might have a couple homerun swings left in him before he gasses out. Is this a fight you are interested in watching, or has it been hastily thrown together for its name recognition alone?
