Junior Dos Santos Isn’t Interested In Fighting Alistair Overeem Any More

Junior Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem were originally scheduled to face each other at UFC 160, the fight was scrapped after Overeem was declared injured. Junior faced Mark Hunt at UFC 160 and won by devastating knockout in the third round, and has lined himself up for another title shot.

The Heavyweight division is once again tied up, with JDS and Cain Velasquez holding the division hostage. Dos Santos spoke with Fightersonlymag.com about his feelings towards alistair pOvereem:

“Bigfoot put him on his place. I no longer feel the wish to face him but I fight whomever the UFC puts in front of me. I will train aiming that guy and to be very well prepared to win,”

“The limited fighters, guys who don’t believe in themselves, who don’t dedicate to the training and don’t take it seriously are the ones who make it to call for attention. They do it to hype themselves.”

With JDS vs Velasquez III in the works for UFC 166, it doesn’t seem like there is much chance of any other fighters getting hold of that title this year. If Dos Santos wins, then Velasquez will probably get a rematch. Overeem is scheduled to face Travis Browne at UFC on FS1: Boston, in a fight that he really needs to win.

His shocking knockout loss to Antonio Silva has put the K-1 champion on thin ice, which would soon become a slippery slope should he lose against Browne.

“It’s not that he [Overeem] is bad. He is an excellent fighter and he has great accomplishments in his career. You see [Chael] Sonnen making controversial statements as well but I’m not saying anything bad about him.”

“Have you see Sonnen? He is an excellent athlete… but he is better as a commentator.”

I think it’s about time for a shake up in the Heavyweight division, I would like to see Werdum thrown in to the mix. His win against Nogueira was a masterclass in grappling, and just goes to show that he is the premiere BJJ artist in MMA.
