Junior dos Santos to Alistair Overeem: When you feel the power of my punch, you will change your mind
Posted on July 13, 2012, 06:17 PM by Mike DrahotaInterviewed by FuelTV.com, UFC Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos explains that he is perfectly healthy now from his rigorous training camp prior to UFC 146. Although there is not an official fight date lined up for his next title defense, he addresses the issue of the suspended Alistair Overeem, who has been talking a lot about wresting the belt from dos Santos. Laughing at the former Strikeforce Heavyweight champ's recent talk, dos Santos goes as far as to say that Overeem is becoming like Chael Sonnen. The UFC champ has not been shy in speaking out against the use of performance-enhancing drugs in MMA. Trash talk or not, a fight between the two highly accomplished strikers would be a huge draw with the potential for fireworks. Who would come out on top in this clash of the titans?

but when condit does it he is a bitch
LMAO ENGLISH!?
You're too great of a fighter to be taking the WWE route too, Alistair. You should be above that.
JDS all day.
i reckon Alitair will beat him in the striking unless JDS lands a big strike, Alistair'schin is his only downfall in his stand up game and that is certainly something Junior can exploit.
if he can hit alistars chin! he is way better at striking than jds and a lot more powerful. I am going to go ahead and say overeem will become the champ no matter who holds the title.
JDS, all day.
Junior's blood was starting to boil!
all these videos are not working in my Country- I thought Dana said Toronto Canada was the Mecca of MMA. Boo The Mecca sucks at getting videos.
Ahh poor you :P How about clicking on the title link in embedded player, going to Youtube copy the tile, paste it to search bar, click the top result....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah :) You welcome Canada !
my mother thanks you, my Father thanks you, my Brother thanks you, My Wife thanks you, My son thanks you, my Daughter thanks you and I Thank you!
I think that covers it.
IMO this fight could go either way. All the hype of the Silva vs Sonnen 2 fight made for the "biggest fight in UFC history" but there is no bigger fight than for the HW belt between two elite strikers. HERE WE GO!
even tho jds prefers to box he still is an mma pro and is more well rounded than ppl think. i truly believe that match up is 50/50
I don't think this is 50/50. Listen, Alistair Overoids has been KTFO'd by smaller dudes before, If you watch all his old videos or what we call "pre-steroids era", he's just a big joke just like Bob Sapp. My most favorite AListair video was when he was forced to stand up several times only to be knocked out several times by a relatively unknown fighter. You guys should watch it! Very funny.
Now about JDS, this guy's punches have cracked top HW 's skulls. And we all know it's not just raw power, but partnered with great technical skills, footwork and timing.
At this point, we are all aware that Alistair can't take a punch from smaller guys. What more with guys as big as him? We don't need physics to tell us what's gonna happen if he'll catch a punch from a guy like Junior Dos Santos compared to that of Chuck Lidell and Shogun Rua.
Now I've seen a lot of stupid comments, but calling Overeem, "a big joke just like Bob Sapp" takes the cake. Overeem is unbeaten in his last 12 fights, and the knockouts you're talking about occurred more than five years ago, long before anyone outside of Brazil had ever heard of JDS. His kickboxing skills are unquestionably great, since he won the kickboxing world championship. Overeem is not the same fighter he was 5 years and 50-60 pounds of muscle ago. Regardless of the way he made that transformation, it is very foolish to compare the fighter he was then to the fighter he is now.
I'm not going to sit here and try to convince you that Overeem has the world's greatest chin; he doesn't. But it's not as bad as you make it sound. Liddell and Shogun both needed multiple shots to put him away, and neither of them exactly "KTFO'd" him.
In his fight with Liddell, he was rocked by a huge overhand right, backed into the ropes by two more straight rights and a knee, and then dropped by a 6 punch combination, which in all fairness, nobody in the world could have stood up to. And he really wasn't knocked out cold, it was a TKO stoppage.
In his first fight with Shogun, he was stopped via punches and hammer fists from the mount. The fight was stopped because he was mounted and getting punched, and all he was doing was covering up. Again, he was not knocked out cold; it was a TKO stoppage.
In his second fight with Shogun, Shogun took him down, landed some good ground and pound from inside the guard, then stood up, dove back into Overeem's guard with an overhand right - one of the nastiest ground strikes I've ever seen - and finished with more punches until the ref stopped it. Again, Overeem was not out cold.
Now, if JDS catches Overeem with a power shot, the fight is going to be over. There is not a man alive who can take that kind of punishment. I actually think JDS will win this fight due to his speed advantage. However, JDS is not, as you stated, "as big as Overeem". Overeem has a good 20 pounds heavier than him and has a 3 inch reach advantage. While he may not be able to match JDS in terms of pure boxing skills and handspeed, he is a much more diverse striker, with great kicks and knees. There is a very real possibility that JDS won't land that power shot before Overeem lands one of his own, an for that reason, your dismissal of Overeem's skills is absolutely idiotic.
Werdum lit him up.
spot on, do not think any one could of put it better!
Werdum "lit him up"? We're going to have to agree to disagree on that.
Werdum landed some strikes, but in my book "lighting someone up" implies that you put some power behind those strikes and did some damage. Werdum only scored points, he didn't hurt Overeem at all.
Implying that jds is gonna be landing combos with a little more powpow
Overeem isnt going to be afraid of being taken down by JDS, he can really open up his strikes. By "open" i don't mean rushing and smashing, but he is going to be a lot tighter than the Werdum fight, he was very afraid of being taken down and it showed. He has no worry about JDS taking him down, I think Overeem has shown some great ground game. I'm leaning towards Overeem, but Junior does have the one punch, but so does Overeem, who is the better striker overall.
