Josh Koscheck Planning Return, Aims To Start Training Soon

Former UFC welterweight title challenger Josh Koscheck has been out of action since his devastating first round knockout loss to current No. 4-ranked challenger Tyron Woodley at UFC 167 last fall.

But, that hasn’t stopped the always outspoken “Kos” from running his mouth. He’s sticking to what he knows best (and made a career out of), stating last week that the UFC will find a way to bring back longtime champion Georges St. Pierre because current (and injured) 170-pound champion Johny Hendricks “can’t sell pay-per-views.”

As far as his own status, the 36-year-old “Kos” told ESPN that he’s not quite ready to hang up the four-ounce gloves. In fact, he’s been enjoying his time off from the sport, but is still planning to honor the last two fights on his UFC contract, even returning to training quite soon:

“I’ve been training my whole life. I’ve never had a break. I feel like I need to get away and take some time off and enjoy life. At this point, I’m still coming back. I have two more fights on my contract, and I plan on fighting those out and seeing if I want to continue. I’m obligated to two more fights with the UFC. I’ve been called twice for fights, and I told the UFC, ‘no.’ I’m not ready yet. Probably at the end of this month, I’ll start focusing more on getting back into fight shape.”

After knockout losses to Robbie Lawler and Woodley last year, Koscheck is light years away from any true relevancy in what is probably the most stacked division in all of MMA. Still, he’s a game fighter whose name can definitely sell a few buys here and there.

And with champions Anthony Pettis, Cain Velasquez, Hendricks, and now even Chris Weidman injured, the UFC needs all the name recognition it can get. “Kos” is planning on getting back into shape soon. Can he right the ship after two brutal losses to top competition?
