The UFC is returning to Ireland, the scene of one of the most exciting cards in the promotion’s history, for UFC Fight Night 77. You’ll recall the last time the UFC went to Dublin, Ireland, as Conor Mcgregor took out Diego Brandao at UFC Fight Night 46. The free card was electrifying due to both the intense atmosphere set by the fans, and the winning performances of their hometown fighters. Many still call UFC Dublin the best card they’ve ever seen, PPV (pay-per-view) or not.

An interesting turn up for the books now, the last man to defeat current UFC interim featherweight champion McGregor, Joseph Duffy, will face ex-‘Notorious’ opponent Dustin Poirier in the main event of the of the October 24th visit to the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland. As per the UFC UK Twitter:

Lightweights ‘Diamond’ and ‘Irish Joe’ share a common opponent in McGregor, except Poirier lost by first round TKO to the Irish sensation, whereas Duffy submitted McGregor in just 38 seconds in a regional event back in 2010. Both men are currently riding two-fight win streaks in the lightweight division, as Duffy has topped Jake Lindsey and Ivan Jorge in the first round, and ‘Diamond’ has taken out Yancy Medeiros and Carlos Diego Ferreira.

‘Irish Joe’ is hot property given the ‘W’ over Conor McGregor, and POirier is once again starting to fill the potential that many believed he was wasting at featherweight. What do you think of this pairing, will it be Duffy’s smooth yet powerful pro-boxing style, or Poirier’s gritty well-rounded game that will win the day?

We’ll keep you updated to this story as more news comes in, but it’s likely Conor McGregor will have something to say about two of his ex-opponents headlining the next Irish card.
