Jose Aldo out of UFC 153 bout with Frankie Edgar due to injury

UFC President Dana White tweeted the news earlier:
Now Aldo is out with foot injury. Main and co main in the same day!! Another amazing day at the UFC. We have some work to do

Aldo suffered a swollen foot and several scratches on September 1 after a car hit the motorcycle he was riding in the Copacabana section of Rio de Janeiro, but said the injuries were minor and would not prevent him from defending his title against Edgar.
Aldo originally withdrew from a July 21 bout against Erik Koch at UFC 149 in Calgary, Canada due to a leg injury. The fight was rescheduled for UFC 153. Then Koch tore the medial collateral ligament in his right knee and withdrew from the bout, so Edgar stepped up.
Aldo (21-1) has not fought since January 14 when he knocked out Chad Mendes in the first round at UFC 142 in Rio de Janeiro.

Yea I'm sure when Dana White flys you out too see the UFC doctor to check up on the injury the doctor just goes along with the guy pretending...
Simply put..if the fighter says "I cannot fight" the fight 1. Will not be sanctioned and 2. If that fighter gets injured the UFC would not only be held responsible but would be negligent in forcing the fighter to fight.

His team probably decided after training with the injury from the motorcycle accident that he couldn't compete. Sad.

UFC is going to shit, I don't know whats going on, but these injuries are not attractive to casual fans. Maybe fighters are over training or something, but something is ****ed. Injury after Injury this is just like watching hockey with concussion after concussion. Very disapointing. You can ask me what can I expect from a contact sport, but it wasnt this bad 5 years ago.
It's happening since they brought the insurance in for fighters last year.
Which I'm all for by the way. The fighters deserve protection, but you have to admit. Before insurance, fighters had a lot more to lose if they couldn't make a fight and would tend to play through the pain.

I'm surprised these guys aren't asked in their contracts to not be doing any dangerous stuff like that. Training is already risky enough as it is, riding motorcycles isn't really helping things.

After the loss, brutal leg kicks and the short time to prepare this is probably better for Edgar, na warm up fight makes things easier so we will see the best Edgar fight Aldo for maybe the fight of the decade!
on another note i wonder if fighters get any fines for not making fights, would make sense, would make fighters be more cautious when training and in there life styles.Besides the rest of us are never at 100% when a fight happens! :p
It depends on when the contract was signed. In my experience fro the boxingworld these are mosly finalized coser to fight week. I have seen MMA fihters chastisd by the sanctioning organization for backing out of fights, but cannot speak for the UFC. I would assume they folow the boxing model, but am not sure. Take Jones' case; it might be easy to say "Fine him", but if his contract stated he would fight Hendo on September 1 at 205 lbs, there is not much they can do about it.
Obviously they have to cancel the event, seeing as Jones cancelled an entire event on his own it only makes sense that Aldo and Rampage between them must cancel this one....

Well Edgars aready made Shogun and Machida look bad by accepting a crazy hard fight with Aldo on short notice a week after they refused to do the same agaist Jones... Why not offer him a VIP card to subway and let him pile on 60lbs to step in against Texeira (the first guy Shogun ducked this year)...

How does it matter if he picked the fight or not? Regardless, he was going to get beat down. Doesn't matter if he picked it or not, Aldo had the advantage and Edgar dodged a bullet.
