Jon Fitch On WSOF3 Loss: I Should Have Fought The Choke Right Away

Jon Fitch made his World Series Of Fighting debut last night, and it couldn’t have gone worse for the former UFC WW title challenger. Fitch lasted all of 41 seconds, succumbing to some big hooks, and eventually being choked out cold. It was only thanks to Burkman’s sportsmanship that Fitch was not further harmed, as referee Steve Mazzagatti was apparently daydreaming Jon Fitchwhen Fitch lost consciousness.

Fitch was able to fend off every submission attempt (28) during his UFC stint, so what was the cause of his lackluster performance?

“I got a little overconfident with my choke defense and was going to try to slam him, but he locked it in too tight. Mistake on my part. I should have fought the choke right away.”

That was a snippet from Fitch’s WSOF 3 post fight interview, and it seems that he may have just dropped the ball. He came in overconfident, the worst thing a pro MMA fighter can do, and the rest is history. So what does the future hold for Jon Fitch?

Well, I doubt WSOF president Ray Sefo will cut Fitch, he seems to have a more relaxed approach to running his company than most other promotions, but I expect he will want a strong performance from J-Fit in his next outing.

Feed him a middle tier fighter to boost his confidence and I’m sure he will be back to terrorising 170lb. guys in no time.
