Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen will coach TUF; Title fight set for April of next year
Posted on October 16, 2012, 02:38 PM by Mike DrahotaApparently, even if Dana White could have gotten Anderson Silva to say 'yes' to a superfight with Jon Jones, that fight would have had to wait for quite some time anyhow. Breaking news comes that Jones will act as coach on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter, and will be pitted against former Middleweight title challenger and trash-talk specialist Chael Sonnen. The two were almost on their way to a UFC 151-saving bout on September 1st before the now-infamous incident of Jones turning down the fight. Now, it will take place for certain, and on April 27th, 2013.
The story, confirmed by the Los Angeles Times here, will lead to a cancellation of Sonnen's expected foray back into the Light Heavyweight division, where he was set to fight Forrest Griffin at UFC 155 in late December. Now, Sonnen will put that off to coach the up-and-coming prospects on TUF and then fight Jones for the Light Heavyweight crown. Last seen being finished by Silva for the second time, many fans are wondering if Sonnen actually deserves this fight. Whether he does or not, you can be sure that the hype leading up to this bout will be beyonfd monumental.
Set to begin filming on October 29th, the next season of TUF will culminate with a finale from the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Las Vegas, ovbviously featuring the pivotal title fight. Dana White is noticeably excited about the prospect of a Jones vs. Sonnen bout, and said the following today:
"This should be a good one. Jon has accepted the fight. He knows the fans want to see that fight."
Perhaps the fans do want to see that fight, but isn't there one that fans would want to see more, one that Dana White just yesterday guaranteed he could make happen? I am putting aside all feelings of unfairness in Chael talking his way to the title this on time, mainly because this is going to be Epic!!!!!!!
Will also enjoy Jon finally teaching Sonnen the respect he should be showing him... that's if Anderson left anything to be taught

This is not epic it is stupid. Just more proof that the UFC has become less about the actual fighters and more about the allmighty dollar. Sonnen does not deserve a title shot anymore than I do.

This post has just shown that fighters don't earn title shots in the Ufc any more and it has lost some credibility and no doubt some fans to Bellator .

I agree with you, It's all fun and games now but if in the future another organisation emerges with a more serious offering, the UFC may be looked upon like the WWE and although maintain a strong following, they will be the butt of jokes around the civilised world when compared. You know they can make money without the BS, just to get the extra cash is a poor driving force with the end looking not very pretty.

No its clearly the ufc knowing Chael will bring in rating for the ultimate fighter even though he has ZERO chance of beating Jones, but that wont stop him from still saying hes the best after he loses.
oh and having said that, it could be a really fun season to watch, and I will really enjoy seeing Sonnen get beat up, but he should have had to at least earn the beating with more than his mouth.

most people wanted to see 151 happen whether it was chael fighting or not, i was one of them, chael should of been able to fight and save the card. jon was a pussy that knew he could win but instead just postponed the inevitable and ruined a card. this is going too far though, chael does not deserve the fight under these circumstances. tuf will be awesome though. i cant wait to see all sides of both undisputed ufc lightheavyweight champions (according to chael forshadow).
Jon should have just been rescheduled and the card should have still went on. Chael had no business there and was making a joke out of the belt. I would have watched 151 with or without Bones.
