UFC strawweight Champion Joanna Jędrzejczyk recently appeared on Submission Radio to talk about her upcoming title defense against Jessica Penne, her journey to the UFC and much more. Here are the highlights.

With Ronda Rousey being the other female in the UFC as a champion, does she feel any pressure to live up to or even be on the same level as Rousey:

“No. Zero pressure. I will keep on doing my things. Of course, I’m a champion, but I’m not gonna stop. I’m training more and harder than before. So I’m gonna be a better fighter. I promise to you guys.”

With dominating and finishing Carla Esparza in her last bout, how does she see her fight with Jessica Penne ending?

“I will do my things, keep on striking and have a few aces in my pocket. But I will show you June 20 in Berlin.”

With UFC Fight Night 69 being her first title defense and knowing that Jessica Penne is not a wrestler, but Carla Esparza was a strong wrestler, does she see that the Penne or Esparza fight being easier?

“No. Every fight [is] gonna be more difficult. You can be underdog, but you can beat the champion. This is what I did last time. And so I have lots of respect to my opponents. Of course me and my trainers, we have some game plans for this fight like for every fight, but you never know what’s gonna happen in the octagon. So you must have a different plan, second by second when you’re in the octagon. So Jessica, she’s working very good on the ground, her wrestling is good, but not as good as Carla’s wrestling, but I think she can strike better than Carla and then she will try to take me down. But we will see. They cannot do it, yeah? I’m gonna stay the champion (laughs).”
