Feeling Better, TJ Grant Looks To Fight In Halifax In October

TJ Grant entered the UFC as a welterweight in April of 2009 and quickly ran up a record of 3 – 3 over a short twenty months’ of work. However, believing that he’d have more success at 155 pounds, Grant made the decision to drop down to lightweight and attempt a title run in the smaller class.

Beginning with Shane Roller in the October of 2011 and ending with Gray Maynard in May of 2013, Grant rolled through five consecutive opponents and earned himself the title shot that he’d been seeking – UFC 164 and a fight with Benson Henderson; August 31, 2014.

However, Grant was forced to scratch from the fight as a result of a concussion he sustained while training and has been sidelined ever since. Indeed, the injury was severe enough to prevent Grant from accepting a second title shot – this time against Anthony Pettis – at UFC On Fox 9 (December 14, 2013).

This evening (July 2, 2014), UFC Tonight has reported that Grand is “feeling a lot better” and hoping to be on the UFC’s October 4 card (UFC Fight Night TBD vs. TBD), which is set for Grant’s hometown – Halifax, Nova Scotia.

For Grant’s fans, this is great news.

Even though Grant won’t be coming back as a title challenger, he will, nonetheless, be coming back to an important fight and one that – should he win it – would (in all likelihood) land him back in title challenger status.

As to whom the UFC might pair Grant up with in Halifax, Khabib Nurmagomedov would be a great fight.

Grant was a No. 3 ranked fighter, with a five fight winning streak, and a title shot in hand when he went down. It’s hard to see how the UFC couldn’t give him a top ranked fighter when he comes back.

Regardless of how it works out, it’s great news to learn that Grant is healthy and ready to pick up where left off. His fans are sure to be looking forward to seeing him in Halifax in October.
