greg jackson did a good job, turning another exciting fighter into a runner!
Ever heard of a game plan?
quit stealing my quotes!
yes
Ever heard of being an egomaniacal moron who pumps out boring fights to eek out wins so he can collect money to pump out more boring fights?
As much as it would be amazing to see, not everyone can just go out and swing away for the fences not bothering about the consequences.
How would we ever know who was best?
It would be pot luck who got knocked out and who didn't. Thats why I can appreciate a game plan. This one obviously sucked for Guida as he lost.
Guida seems to be trying to change his style since the Gomi fight but I guess it's back to the drawing board for him. I reckon he would be more badass if he sat down on his punches.
He doesn't have real power in them. You could even see Maynard saying come on hit me! and letting him connect!
Imagine a Guida who could knock people out. THAT would be a scary dude
Clay won that fight. The judges that gave it to Grey should have their credentials stripped. Clay landed more and better strikes, won most of the few wrestling exchanges, had more octagon control; he won the fight.
Oh, and BTW, I had Grey to win via decision in the picks. I was wrong.
you must not have scene the statistics
maynard significant strikes = 49/225
Guida significant strikes = 45/321
Maynard total strikes= 52/229
Guida total strikes= 49/327
Maynard take downs = 1/9
Guida take downs= 0/3
Maynard submission attempts= 1
Guida submission attempts = 0
Those must be from fight metric because there is no way they are correct. I don't need a faulty computer program to tell me what happened, I have eyes.
While there was some moments when Guida became too defensive, the fanboy should lay off the criticism just because he didn't run into the end of Gray's fists the way you wanted.
Yes, Guida has become a more strategic fighter under Jackson but he also reversed a career that was in decline and become a much smarter fighter.
Guida had to stick and move, it was the only way he could win. I had him taking the fight 3 rounds to 2, the decisive moment being when Gary dropped his hands and got hit, which gave Guida the round.
Being dumb doesn't help on the scorecards but being aggressive does, which obviously hurt Guida is is why I understand Maynard getting the nod.
The things is, as much as we all love to guys stand toe to toe and trade, a fighter's most important goal is to get the win, not keep keyboard warriors happy.
How many times have you seen Dan Miragliotta give out warnings for timidity?
There is a big difference between tactical retreat and avoiding a fight. Guida was avoiding the fight--and this is why octagon control wins fights when all other factors are roughly equal.
Guida applied Condit's strategy against Diaz, but without the leg kicks or counterstrikes. In the last two rounds he barely got off a punch.
There are only three rounds in most UFC fights--and during that time, fans have a right to expect an actual fight.
To avoid a fight for 5 rounds is career suicide.
Run Kalib, Run.
Gray won it on aggression, not control.
If Guida avoided the fight for all 5 rounds, why was Gray's face so beat up after?
"fans have a right to expect an actual fight. "
No. This is a sport. The goal is not to put on a show but to win. The fans have the right to see good techniques like we saw yesterday but it's definitely not a right to see a bloodbath. Sorry again.
WHOA WHOA WHOA wait a minute
there were actually HL for this fight?
defenetely worst fight of the night
Quit watching fights if you don't like that.
A lot of people didn't like this fight huh? I found is very entertaining. I guess a lot of people don't understand great foot work.
i think Cub Swanson showed great footwork, not Guida
I tought it was entertaining too!
never make him braid his hair again
hes not same the same guida we know.....
Im surprised guida didnt use any "condit" kicks, i think those kicks with "bad intensions" would have been affected against gray...
Highlights?? Where? What highlights??
