Gray Maynard: Nate Diaz will beat Henderson, I hit harder than Jamie Varner
Posted on September 2, 2012, 11:38 AM by Anton GurevichFormer two-time UFC Lightweight title challenger, Gray "The Bully" Maynard, shared his thoughts about the landscape of his weight class. According to Maynard, Ben Henderson "gets away" with a lot of "stuff" because he's a southpaw. However, Maynard revealed he thinks Nate Diaz will dethrone Ben Henderson at UFC on FOX 5 later this year. "The Bully" plans to challenge Nate Diaz, with sights on getting his third shot at the title.
Speaking about his upcoming fight with Joe Lauzon, Gray Maynard declared he hits harder than Jamie Varner, who was submitted by J-Lau after toe-to-toe action at last month's UFC on FOX card in Los Angeles, California.
"Yeah, he's been doing good. The last one, he did a good job. He came back, tough scrap, looked good. That was probably the best that he's looked. He didn't gas out, he didn't try all kinds of jumping moves or choke holds or heel hooks in the first round to gas out. He looked good. I think it should be a good fight. He got dropped a couple times but he came back. I feel like I hit harder than a lot of people." - Quote via MMAMania.com
Gray Maynard is currently 11-1-1 in his MMA career.

i'd have to agree with Gray - he does hit harder than most of the fighters in LW division and is much stronger and has an all around game; Edgar just had a well executed game plan and solid heart in their last fight.
I see Gray rising up the LW division once again and get the LW title by 2013.
Agreed with everything other than him becoming champion. I think he will take the place of Kenny Florian. Getting to a title shot and or No.1 contender and losing to the best.
@Daddy I agree too, however do you remember how many wins he had to notch up to get that first title shot. If there is a more exciting option the UFC will over Gray look every time if they can. Ken Flo always had exciting ''title mix'' fights, Gray doesn't and has a boring personality to go along with it, a loss for guy like him in the UFC in a stacked LW division will move him down the ''in the mix'' pecking order more quickly than an exciting fighter. Bottom line if he manages to get's another shot he better take it, because it might be his last for a while.
Maynard has about as much personality as a wet towel....11 minute interview....seriously????? Who though that was a good idea......
Don't say that ! My wet towel as an outstanding personality !
i dislike his personality . he is too pretentious
The guy probably cut 20 pound ejaculating over the Edgar robbery that has seen his nemesis move out of the division.
I know your just joking, but I bet maynard's ****ing pissed. I know he thought edgar won the second fight (not sure about the first), and I know he wanted to fight him again, badly.
So How do you "FANS" confirm how hard he punches???? and you say he has a all around ground game?? Well rounded ground games in my opinion includes beating people by submission And Gray has NEVER submitted anyone..ANYONE....In my honest opinion. Gray has a well rounded "Decision Game" pffffff.....he is strong I guess.
he hits hard just has poor accuracy. He has rocked plenty of fighters just seems to have a hard time finishing. His ground game is defo not the best just good top control.
I know he is right about Varner but I HOPE he is right about Diaz
i agree nate is gona win also now that edgar at 45 i got grey #1 for wrestling since edgar was razor close better wrestler
I agree with @ChrisGmoez questioning how fans can say they believe or know maynard hits hard or harder than someone else...the dude has only got one KO in his entire MMA career. Knockouts show how hard you can hit. Joe rogan is the idiot who started the bandwagon of Maynard being able to hit hard. Every time maynard fights all joe does is talk about maynards power....what power? And I agree with maynard saying Diaz wil win. If henderson tries to stand with Diaz it will be a long night because based off of what I have seen in the lightweight division. Diaz has got the best overall boxing. If henderson tres to take it to the ground. Well, we all know Diaz has got a awesome ground game. I dont like Diaz for his personality but the mother****er can fight his ass off.
It wouldn't just be fans who say he hits like a truck. Edgar, Guida, Florian, and his teammates have been talking about how hard he hits for years.
Ya, I could believe he hits harder than Varner, but I got Bendo winning against Diaz.
Apparently it takes maynard 100 hours out of his week to travel to aka which is 1 hour away from where he lives...??
i hope nate wins i think he will and his title shot is long over do and he has the best boxing in the light weight division lets go nate whip his ass
DIAZ has that fight, in fact i think he will win by sub. theres no way bendo will outstrike nate with hands especially with nates range. bens biggest weapon is gonna be his kicks but i see ben taking him down and nate locking in a sick triangle in the 4th or 5th. his jitsu is top notch. maynard is for sure top 2 or 3 hardest hitterin division but he rarely lands clean except on frankie
Maynard is slow
He never lands. Again, hes only got one KO. Fighters who we know actually hit hard because they have a backgroud of knockouts in the lightwight division are
Melvin guilard
Anthony Njokuani
Anthony Pettis
Jeremy Stephens
Sam Stout
your right but it was still impressive what he did to frankie twice who has a iron will. those shots would have finished some of the fighters on your list
Sam Stout? Might wanna go back through his LW record for KO's in the UFC.
As far as I'm concerned Nate Diaz kicked Maynard's ass twice and Nate is on a much greater level now than he was in either of those fights. Boring Gray Maynard can settle in as the poor mans John Fitch of the lightweight division. Nate is going to bring it to Henderson don't any of you ****weeds question that.
Out of all the interviews I have ever seen this was the latest.
Hahahahaha
@evan Holober i was talking overall record..Not just UFC record. I was watching stout before he was even in the UFC
if maynard gets back to his wrestling he could win the title even tho it would be dull!
@mmagym,
if Maynard talks to his opponents he will win the title. His dullness is his strength. In fact whenever I have trouble sleeping I listen to a collection of his interviews....
I believe he may be related to the Diaz brothers... great fighters, but would struggle asking you to pass the salt.
Maynard can't put a complete sentence together. Uses words like "Der" and "Umm" too often. "Ya good scrap, came back, fight hard, Duh".
