Georges St-Pierre To Star In Big Budget Remake Of JCVD Classic ‘Kickboxer’

Georges St-Pierre made a huge splash when he ducked out of his title responsibilities earlier this year, and it seems as though the former UFC welterweight champion may not be returning any time soon. After tearing his ACL during his recent vacation, GSP’s new found love for acting may come as a relief to the stresses he experienced at the top of his division.

As the new champion Johny Hendricks emerged against Robbie Lawler at UFC 171, St-Pierre could be seen on the big screen in the newest of the ‘Captain America’ series, and it looks like ‘Rush’ has landed himself another big role; this time he will be starring in a remake of the Jean-Claude Van Damm classic ‘Kickboxer‘. Check out this recent press release:

“KICKBOXER will be directed by Chinese phenomenon Stephen Fung (TAI CHI ZERO, TAI CHI HERO) and produced hit maker Ted Field of Radar Pictures (RIDDICK Series, THE LAST SAMURAI). KICKBOXER will star former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER), and WWE superstar Dave Bautista (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.) The film will also be introducing Alain Moussi as its lead. Mr. Moussi is a world-renowned stunt man / martial artists, performing in such films as   (X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, IMMORTALS, PACIFIC RIM, WHITEHOUSE DOWN). .”Alain is a star and will be an amazing leading man,” said Filed “Like Vin in RIDDICK, Alain will make this movie very special and this KICKBOXER reboot will be the start of an amazing franchise”.

The original kickboxer movie is one of my all-time favorites, and I could imagine GSP as the lead role, but it seems Alain Moussi will have to do. The press release also went on to say the ‘big budget reboot’ will be pushed at this years prestigious Cannes film festival.

With the ever-growing sport of MMA now bridging to the world of movies, how long will it be before all of the UFC’s biggest stars seek pay checks in the acting business? That being said, I can’t imagine Dominick Cruz playing anyone but Pinochio, so he may have to stay fighting.
