“Durkin” Is Workin’: Patrick Cummins Set To Face Kyle Kingsbury At UFC on FOX 12

After making his auspicious UFC debut with a first round TKO loss to Daniel Cormier as a (Very) late replacement at February’s UFC 170, UFC light heavyweight Patrick Cummins got back into the win column with a second round TKO of his own over Roger Narvaez at last Saturday night’s (June 7, 2014) UFC Fight Night 42 from Albuquerque, New Mexico.

And it looks like “Durkin” is looking to waste no time in making a better name for himself, as FOX Sports revealed today that Cummins will make a quick turnaround to face veteran Kyle Kingsbury at UFC on FOX 12 from San Jose, California.

Kingsbury has been out of action since late 2012, when then-undefeated prospect Jimi Manuwa beat him via injury TKO at UFC on Fuel TV 5, breaking his orbital bone in the process. “Kingsbu” contemplated retirement, but ultimately decided to return. He’s lost his last three bouts in a row, and he’ll have no easy return task in former NCAA Division I wrestler Cummins.

The same could be said for “Durkin,” who’s faced one of the best fighters in the world and a relative unknown during his strange two-fight UFC stint. The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) veteran Kingsbury undoubtedly has the experience on him, but will be faced with an insane amount of ring rust.

UFC on FOX 12, which will air live on Saturday, July 26, 2014, from the SAP Center in San Jose, features a pivotal welterweight main event between No. 1 Robbie Lawler and No. 5 Matt Brown, with the winner receiving the next title shot at Johny Hendricks’ belt.
