Dana White: Until The Diaz Brothers Call Me, I Don’t Even Think About Them

Last night’s (Sat., May 10, 2014) UFC Fight Night 40 card from the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, provided a night of jaw-dropping knockouts, continuing the recent trend of excellent UFC Fight Night events.

Matt “The Immortal” Brown destroyed Erick Silva in the evening’s main event, securing his seventh straight win in the ultra-stacked UFC welterweight division. But his win wasn’t without its fair share of adversity, as Brown was repeatedly rocked by some vicious first round body shots from Silva.

After the exhilarating bout was in the books, UFC president Dana White spoke up to FOX Sports to give his take on the amazing opening frame:

“That was awesome. That was one of the best first rounds I’ve ever seen, and what an amazing fight. He ate those shots to the body like a champ. People don’t realize that have never been hit to the body like that, what it takes out of you and what it does. Head shots are easy to take; those are brutal.”

White moved on to discuss Brown’s next fight, which will obviously be against a top-level contender. No. 6-ranked Hector Lombard, who recently beat Jake Shields at UFC 171, is considered a likely opponent for “The Immortal, “ something that White agreed with.

The president also touched on the Diaz brothers, who have been in the news for talking about their contracts a lot more than actually fighting. Nick was offered a fight with Lombard but turned it down, and Nate was removed from the UFC rankings last week. White said they simply wouldn’t communicate with him:

“Yeah, anything is possible. Obviously, I think Hector is ranked No. 5 or 6 in the world, you know, no sign of Diaz, either Diaz brother. We’ll see what happens; I think Nate would have a better possibility of fighting before Nick. Until those guys call me, I don’t even think about them. We offer fights to Nate, Nick is in retirement. We’ll see what happens.”

While many fans have been quick to side with the Diaz brothers in their ongoing saga against the UFC, it sounds like there have been offers leveled by the promotion that have simply not received a response from the polarizing Stockton natives.

If they won’t answer White’s calls, then there’s not much the UFC can do. When, if ever, will the exciting brothers make their way back into the Octagon?
