Dana White: I’ll Have A Date For GSP Vs. Hendricks II Within A Couple Weeks

UFC president Dana White was quite livid after Georges St. Pierre squeaked by Johny Hendricks in the main event of UFC 167, and it all centered on two things.

The first was the fact that Welterweight champion St. Pierre said he was going to take some time off from MMA to take care of some personal problems. The second reason for his anger was the highly controversial judges’ split decision that had St. Pierre retaining the belt by the narrowest of margins.

White felt that St. Pierre had lost the belt to Hendricks and that now was not the time to take an extended leave of absence. The emotional president called for St. Pierre to immediately grant Hendricks a rematch.

White then discussed the situation with St. Pierre on numerous occasions since Saturday night. He’s noticeably calmed him down since then but it looks like he’s sticking to his guns in terms of booking the fight.

Speaking to The Los Angeles Times on Tuesday, White confirmed his intentions to schedule the anticipated St. Pierre vs. Hendricks II sooner than later:

“As far as a rematch, we’re on schedule and I’ll have a date within a couple weeks. I feel confident that Georges is fine with that and all is on track.”

That seems like quite the quick turnaround for after St. Pierre could hardly remember fighting Hendricks after it was over. His personal matters have reported to be a number of things, including a multi million-dollar lawsuit with a former manager. There have also been rumors swirling that GSP has a baby on the way, but White refuted that report.

He did, however, clarify his views on the NSAC, noting that he has faith they will implement some kind of positive change upon the scoring of MMA bouts in Las Vegas:

“It’s not the commissioners who I have a problem with, I have great respect for the commissioners. I honestly believe change is going to happen, that the athletic commissioners in Nevada will fix the problem.”

Let’s hope that’s the case, because two absolutely pivotal title fights have left a dark shroud of controversy surrounding both UFC 165 and UFC 167. For his part, St. Pierre has neither confirmed nor denied the potential booking.

He’s on vacation, and something tells me it’ll be awhile before we get a straight answer from the champion. What is set to transpire in this ongoing saga?
