Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is in a position right now that he’s never been in before. He’s not the champion, and he doesn’t have his next fight lined up. Aldo has gone on record by saying that he wants a rematch with Conor McGregor after he lost to McGregor at UFC 194 via first-round TKO. However, the UFC has other plans in the works.

McGregor is set to fight Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight title at UFC 196 then if McGregor wins at UFC 196; he will fight Frankie Edgar in his first featherweight title defense sometime in 2016.

UFC President Dana White recently spoke with ESPN.com.br about Jose Aldo’s future. According to White, he will talk with Aldo and decide what’s next for him.

“I love Jose (Aldo). I’ll call him today (Wednesday) and we’ll talk to decide who’s next for him,” said White.

White has already gone on record by saying that he doesn’t plan on giving Aldo an immediate rematch with McGregor. However, White changed his mind. When asked if the conversation would be about Aldo fighting for the title, White was emphatic. “Yes,” he replied.

Now, the speculation can begin. It’s possible that Aldo could take another fight, or he could wait for McGregor to take care of his business with dos Anjos and Edgar. Either way, the UFC is looking to book a rematch between Aldo and McGregor.
