Dana White: UFC women's division "absolutely going to happen"

Remember when Dana White stated that he saw no place for women in the UFC? Yeah, that was before Ronda Rousey. Today, the UFC President is singing a different song and has not only suggested that he's warming up to the idea of a women's division, he's determined to bring it to the UFC sooner rather than later.

"It's absolutely going to happen," White said to Sports Illustrated. It's no secret that White has become a huge fan of Ronda Rousey over the past couple of years. However, his biggest concern was making sure there was depth in a women's division before bringing it to the UFC. It seems that White has now looked past that obstacle and sees the value in bringing a star like Rousey into the UFC. The only issue now is that Rousey still has three fights under her current Strikeforce contract. Nevertheless, White hasn't set a timetable for when the women's division will debut in the UFC.

"It could happen tomorrow (or) it could happen a year from now," White said. "The point is I'm committed to this."

Why create an entire womens division just for Rousey? I think this is bad for the UFC. I personally hate the idea of this..

    UFC sees money in Rousey.

Also this shows that Strike Force is done.

Rousey is a pretty chick, but what are they going to do when she loses?

Do the same thing to the "Women's division" they did to LW circa 2004. Except they probably won't bring it back afterwards.

You might be right, but the if the UFC can put on a few big female fights it would make an huge impact for women's mma. The key to the success of women's mma over the next ten years is crossover, there are loads of female athlete's in boxing, kickboxing, Judo, BJJ etc etc. I don't expect to see anything major change soon but it wouldn't shock me to see a few decent female divisions a decade from now.

A rhonda rousey vs Cyborg would be a great matchup if they can agree on a catchweight.

given a choice however, most dudes want to see guys bang it out in the cage rather than chicks. Guys hit harder, more explosive, tougher, better action overall.

I haven't seen enough female fighters to really make a solid call, but the fights ive seen have usually been one sided.

All I care about seeing in a fight is skill. Some of these chicks are scary good. It is a small group but the UFC can put resources behind it and make it grow. This is a good thing.

Suddenly when there is a woman superstar in MMA the woman division also has enough depth to have a UFC division, shocking. Yet again it is all about making a quick buck for the UFC.

I would for sure take a women division over the men 125....to be honest even 135 if it was not for Cruz.

You got that right, but Dana has been doing that for a long time now. I'm sure the UFC /DW apologists will still find a way to defend him. Rousey can make him a few quick bucks, so why not? Lol

Anderson Silva doesnt like women fighting. Just saying.

But really other than rousey who is there? Certainly not enough for a whole division. Their biggest shot of making this work is to have a womans TUF and try to get somewhat decent looking girls so then even if they suck at fighting it could still be worth watching.

There hasn't been any money behind it before. In two years there will be plenty of names.

Come on guys...it is just awesome to see to girls going at it...in the mud or in the ring...and people need to face the facts and get real....this shit has become entertainment and not only fighting skill and there is no turning back....ask Chael.

I gotta say tho, during the Rhonda Rousey/ Meisha Tate fight, thats the first time in history that the fighters were better to look at than the ring girls. I see a future in this!

The ring girls have zero curves. Rousey is WAY hotter.
