Dana White: I guarantee Anderson Silva will say 'yes' to Jon Jones fight

UFC President Dana White declared Anderson Silva will change his mind about the possible match-up with Jon Jones, after he receives an official offer from the promotion. It's all about the money according to Dana White, who also added that deep inside Anderson Silva wants to prove everyone "who's the boss".

Silva not once stated that he's not interested in fighting Jon Jones, and would rather have his superfight appearance against Georges "Rush" St. Pierre. Speaking post-fight at UFC 153, Silva crashed the hopes of MMA fans around the world by claiming that he will no longer compete at 205.

However, Dana White has plans of his own via The Underground Blog:

“I think the Jon Jones fight is a big fight. I know my man says 'No, no, no,'" said White said at the UFC 153 post-fight press conference. "But the amount of money that would be offered for that fight, I guarantee you I will make Anderson Silva say, 'Yes, yes, yes.'"

Anderson Silva is undefeated in the UFC with 16 victories inside the Octagon. Georges St. Pierre is currently tied with Anderson Silva on the number of victories in the UFC, while Jon Jones is at least two years away from getting close to beating the Brazilian's record, with 8 consecutive victories in the UFC, and 11 in total.

I will pee in my pants with excitement if this fight happens.

Anderson Silva is an X-man. I'll be betting on him should Dana be able to make this happen.

Hope it happens before Anderson gets it any older. I seriously think he would beat Jones now in my opinion but next year or the year after??? Not too sure

silva wont go up and fight the bigger Jones a guy his size but has no problem going down where he is bigger in all ways would still be a cool fight but I just think Jones and Silva would be an insane fight ticket and ppv would be thru the roof they are so even Silva seems scared to fight a guy younger with great talent.... GSP smaller and getting old for the sport plus him and Jones timing on fights makes it

easy to do...they need to be professionals and fight who ever is set

infront of them...LOL also heard Jones said he wants Chael now

Jon jones will pretty much have to have the exact same gameplan that everyone else has against silva, and that's to go to the ground.

GSP still hasn't confirmed that he doesn't want to fight silva, i really wish he would do the respectable thing and state that clearly. "Maybe in the future" is a pretty weak answer after 4 years or more.

DANA just confirmed that winner of Shogun / Guftasson will get next title shot against Jones. How crazy is that? Wouldn't the Machida/Hendo winner be more deserving of it? Yet again, Dana is by now known for whimsically changing his mind...Who knows who the next contender will be?

So what uncle Dana is pretty much saying is, if Jones or Silva doesn't sign on the dotted line. He's gonna throw you under the bus. He's gonna threaten to fire. He's gonna talk shit about Greg, then he's gonna take jabs at Black House. Oh, Crazy bald uncle dana!! I wonder at what age, this dude is gonna mellow out.

Great opportunity for the organization, fans, and fighters alike. Both these men have had their fare share of fan criticism (whether you believe it was deserving or not), and with this type of mega-fight, it would be hard for even the harshest critics to to hold something against them.

What a fight though...Every pound counts at this level, so Anderson might (and that's a strong 'might') be the one at a disadvantage. No matter what, everybody wins.

P.S. If the fight gets set-up, and someone gets injured, there will be riots...

If Jones gives Silva an opening on the feet, Silva will finish him.

If Jones takes Silva down before that happens, there is a small chance that Silva can pull of a submission from his back, and a very good chance that Jones will do exactly what you said. Jones' ground and pound is nasty.

The only person that can beat silva is silva himself. It's just his overconfidence in the Octagon that worries me...

I totally agree grandslam...this fight would be interest and exciting to watch but i say Silva comes out on top...and the overconfidence is right on point...silva gets in the cage and put his hands down and backs up against the fence and takes shots like bonnar gave him againt somebody with real knockout power he would be out...but the again im pretty sure he is smart enough not the do stuff like that against a fighter like jones.

I never liked Chael Sonnen, but a lot of things that he said about Silva were true. The way he fought with Bonnar was disrespectful. I am sure he will not take his chances with Bones but if he does, that will be the last time he will drop his hands in front of his opponent. Never the less, I am still a Silva fan and root for him in every fight.

You know what, you can actually like both Chael and Anderson. I'm proof. Crazy, i know. You know what else is crazy. I think Anderson fights his best when his hands are dropped. In the second round of the Sonnen fight, Silva had his hands dropped, which made it easier for him to stuff those takedowns. He so good with his head movement and rolling with the punches. I don't know why he even needs to keep his hands up.

Enough, enough, enough already. I can understand that he probably wouldn't fight Jones the way he fought Bonnar, but when did Jon Jones ever become such a fast hard puncher? Have you guys ever seen Jones fight before or you're just writing stuff just to write them? Last time I checked Jones hasn't knocked anyone out with a punch before. His strongest hits are his elbow strikes, but that's mostly when he is on the ground. I like Jones, however he is not that great of a finisher on his feet. Wow - how did Anderson Silva fight Bonnar in a disrespectful manner? If you don't like him dropping his hands, then knock him out, plain and simple. If the Anderson/Jones fight were to happen, Silva would knock Jones out.

And i think Jones knows, he doesn't have ko power. What he does know is, how to utilize the reach (lots of jabs and teeps). How many times has he circled out of danger with his lead hand out towards the opponents eyes? I can't imagine how frustrating that can be. It's a tough fight for both fighters. I'd really rather see Silva test himself against Weidman. If he wins that fight, then Jones. Then hang up the gloves.

Yea silva wouldn't fight jones the way he fought........anyone? but then again who knows, i find i can never predict what he will do.

One thing i know for sure, is that jones sure as hell wouldn't fight silva the way he fought vitor rashad and rampage when he was imitating silva.

When jones came out crawling, i swear it's only God that stopped vitor from winning. If vitor had thrown a punch against a crawling jones then we'd have a new champion right now.

The Silva Vs Jones fight makes better sense than the Silva Vs GSP fight. Silva is getting on in years. Silva will be 38 next year and I hope he won't start ducking opponents or picking opponents that he will have a very distinct advantage. This Bonnar fight, to be honest is not a good sign AND when he called out GSP a lighter and fighter coming off a long term injury does not help my feeling of Silva choosing easy fight to cement his legacy. I'm NOT accusing of Silva ducking or anything like that, Silva is a great fighter maybe the best every BUT avoiding Wiedman a fight that would make more sense than Bonnar for me personally is a very questionable decision. I hope that this latest fight is not a preview of Silva future opponents.

you can say 1 fighter is the best if is not realy been beaten yet Jones got no real loss and he is a monster i think right now he is the only 1 can beat JDS.If they set up Silva vs jones i bet Silva will chicken up and retire befor the fight.Silva is been dominated when he was 28 year old that is not that young ewrybody's prime is at his 20's his is lucky with the oponets he gets smaller devisions and can's in LHW i wish he foght Rua, Machida or Mousassi at tere primes

I doubt we'll ever see this fight. Should it happen the Silva fan boys will eat their words for sure as Jones will pick Silva apart with is reach and his wrestling will take him down and ground and pound his ass. Silva does have chances of course, his striking is second to none but he gotta get close enough to use it which I doubt he can against Jones. His Jitz is good but Jones is the epitome of new school master and his game is improving so much he will be extremely hard for anyone to beat.

I'd pick Jones, maybe. Not sure, but if Silva goes to 170 there's no reason GSP wouldn't fight him there. If they talk a catch weight, who knows?

Not sure why Dana wants Jones-Silva so much more, but I would hazard to guess its for a few reasons: Silva has destroyed three LHWs in the past few years, and it kind of makes sense for him to kind of move up there now (in both the sporting sense, and the fan reaction sense). Silva is bigger than GSP. Both are looked at as amazing, but Silva has a few years of insane HL real stuff and GSP has gutted some decisions out in his last few. The fan reaction to that fight at the moment would see a bit of a mismatch (unless GSP destroys Condit).

The last, and one I think might be the most relevant, Dana understands the history of older fighters dropping weight. Whether its Sugar Ray Leonard, ODLH, RJJ, Jake Shields, Dan Henderson, or any other older fighter in combat sports history that drops back down in weight (obviously with a few exceptions) usually doesn't fare well. If Anderson moves down either to 178 or 170, and gets beat by GSP, then he loses a lot of casual fan backing. He would have lost to a smaller GSP, and if he does he most likely would do it in an extremely lackluster fashion. If that happens then his drawing power would probably diminish, and even worse, the 185 division would look as a much lesser place to fight than 170 (after gaining ground in recent years). A pretty good comparison right now would be boxing. Andre Ward fought Chad Dawson last month at 168 lbs. Both were legitimate undisputed champs (Dawson at 175 and Ward at 168), and Ward destroyed him. Now it could be that Dawson lost some fight at the weight in, and his body just wasn't ready for 168 (something that could very well happen to Anderson). However, Dawson and 175 lbs, both look completely inferior now. Dana is too much of a fight historian, and loves to be in control too much to let this scenario go unchecked in his head.

I have a feeling this whole situation will be a bit different after the Condit-GSP fight though.

Silva "appears" to be ducking the Jones fight..... Hmmmmm.... could be protecting that UFC unblemished record after all.

This is not about money at all, Silva just does not want to lose.....so it "appears". He may prove otherwise in the end.
