Dana White: Georges St-Pierre wants to fight Anderson Silva

Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre are largely considered two of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world. A bout between these two fighters would truly be legendary. the stuff fantasy picks are made of when fans often discuss fights they would like to see.

The 37-year old Silva remains undefeated in the Octagon and although out while recuperating from an injury, St-Pierre, is currently riding a nine-fight win streak. Silva’s camp has been saying that he has picked off any serious Middleweight contenders and have been asking for a super fight with St-Pierre.

UFC President Dana White has been vague in the past about a fight between the two men. However, on today's Dave & Mahoney show on X107.5 radio in Las Vegas, White called in and more than hinted that this dream fight may become a reality.

White said: “I think if we do the fight with Silva and Georges St-Pierre, it would be at a catchweight; probably like 178, something like that. Georges St-Pierre says he wants to do it.”

When asked if this could be St-Pierre’s next fight if he defeats Carlos Condit at UFC 154 in November, the UFC President answered: “Probably. He has got to beat Condit first though. That’s a tough fight. Georges has been off for over a year, so we’ll see."

The Welterweight champion has often said that he would have to put on permanent weight to move up and challenge Silva at Middleweight and that he did not want to bounce back and forth between weight classes. A catchweight fight solves that dilemma and leaves both championships untouched, providing St-Pierre defeats Condit.

Ya see son, once there was a guy in the UFC that, and I know this sounds strange, but there was a guy who didn't want to fight Anderson Silva.

I would rather see Jones/Silva they are the same size but one is scared to fight the other....GSP will have to change everything to be able to fight

a decent fight against a guy heavy stronger longer...and he is excited about it... and Jones is scared well they are finds now and now he wont fight his friends but all the chit on Rashad...hypercrite

I would also like to see that fight but Georges and Silva are closer to the same size than Jones and Silva especially in terms of reach.

Silva and St. Pierre are closer in reach only because Jones has a freakish 84 1/2 inch reach. In weight and height and general size--Silva is closer to Jones.

GSP used to walk around 180-185 until he fought Alves--then GSP bulked up. Anderson Silva has walked around at 225 -230 plus. All you have to do is see all three standing next to each other--and the debate is over.

Would be great for this match to happen while both on the top of the heap... instead of how Wandy Silva vs Chuck Liddell went down.

You know, Condit took a lot of flak for his defensive style against Diaz and then when I watched the above referenced Liddell vs Silva fight I see Liddell did the same thing. Curious.

back when this idea first surfaced, i kinda wondered, can silva stop gsp's takedowns, gsp could win by boring lay n pray. after sonnen silva 2, chael is a 230 pound man, probably weighed 210 fight night, but silva stopped him in rd 2, and i think the only reason he got taken down rd 1 was the careless striking out the gate he started with. he definatly has tdd, and gsp, slightly faster than chael, but no where near the mass coming at silva, i dont think can do it. and i dont think he will jab him to decision either. gsp will get hit, and hit hard, at some point in that fight, and he will go down.

i agree on some of that, but matt serra ko gsp. since then he has been "safe" and no world class strikers he has fought. what i am saying , unless he is able to lay n pray and silva cannot defend the td...he will get hit, and it wont be like getting tagged by koscheck or any others he has been hit by. it will be laser precision , on the button, lights out .

my point exactly, is , he will get caught. those are yes, good strikers, with power, but no where near the diversity, range, technique and creativeness of silva. silva stands way more of a chance of connecting than Alves, Hardy, and Penn. anyway, i would like to see the fight. and think it would be a shame if GSP won by safe lay n pray victory.

Koscheck should have been stopped by GSP not the judges. GSP had Koscheck completely done and still would not move in for the kill.

my prediction isn't really just 1 or the other, moreless I was saying if Silva hasn't tagged GSP by the end of round 2 it's probably because GSP LnP'd those round and will be able to the next 3. if GSP can't take Silva down I don't think the fight will last long. GSP I don't think has any chance to submit Silva, he couldn't submit Dan Hardy lol

Give it a rest already. GSP has 22 pro fights 9 decision victories, Diaz has 26 pro fights 4 decision victories, Condit 28 pro fights only 2 decision victories TWO out of twenty eight fights.

i would rather see that , than see GSP eek out another decision....and make no mistake, if condit turns into a safe game plan machine, then i dont want to watch him either...but for now...someone , please, take out Safe Pierre....and then set a new standard in the WW division

    this is dumb!

GSP vs Silva is a mismatch

is like Frankie Edgar fighting GSP

Silva needs to fight Jon Jones after he beat Hendo

    thats the right Super Fight

since both have no contenders in their divisions

Once again you are not taking serious Condit.

The man is a beast and is coming from great fights.

I really like GSP but he has been out for a long time. I really see Condit wining by desicion or TKO.

But I also see in the future Rory taking revenge of his mentor and defeating Condit to become the new champion.
