Dan Hardy Named Color Commentator For UFC Fight Pass Events In 2014

Veteran UFC welterweight Dan Hardy has been out of action since his 2012 decision win over Amir Sadollah; a heart condition has forced the former title challenger away from competition, but it seems the promotion is keen to keep ‘The Outlaw’ on board.

In an official release yesterday, Hardy confirmed that he would be color commentator for all six UFC Fight Pass events this year. Check it out:

“I’m very excited to be putting on the headset for the UFC. I’ve got the same nerves and butterflies that I had when I first signed for the company as a fighter back in 2008. I think I can bring a great perspective to the color commentator’s role. Researching and breaking down UFC fighters and fights is what I’ve been doing for over 10 years now, only now I am not just concentrating on my own division, but every division. I’ve packed a lot of experience into my 10 fights in the UFC, and I’m looking forward to sharing that experience and insight with the fans.”

Joining the Brit on the free (ish) fight cards will be Bruce Buffer stand-in Andy Friedlander, and play by play broadcaster John Gooden. Hardy’s first task as commentator will be for the March 8 Fight Night 37 event, featuring Alexander Gustafsson vs. Jimi Manuwa.

Gus vs. ‘Poster Boy’ will go down in London, England, so ‘The Outlaw’ should feel right at home in his new position. At 31 years of age, it may not be a retirement from combat sports all together, but combined with his heart condition it may prove a worthwhile move.

Hardy had gone 0-4 for the promotion between 2010-11; losing decisions to Georges St-Pierre and Anthony Johnson, and getting finished by Carlos Condit and Chris Lytle. A successful return bout against Duane Ludwig and the follow up against Sadollah made 2012 a pretty sweet year for Hardy.

Since being diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, ‘The Outlaw’ has refused surgery and maintained his want to fight. Until the severity of the illness is confirmed, it seems the closest he will get to the cage is his new job as commentator.
