"Sadly and unfortunately, I partially tore a ligament in my knee in training. As a result I've had to make one of the toughest decisions that I have ever had to make...for the first time in my career I am forced to pull out of a fight, my fight with Jon Jones at UFC 151. Luckily, surgery is not needed at this time and I will be completely devoted to rehabing my knee as quickly as possible. I feel that I owe it to my fans and all the people supporting me to fight at my full potential in order to give myself a chance to win the UFC title. I appreciate the loyal support that I have felt from my fans. I want to thank all of my coaches and team of guys for the great support with my training camp. Most importantly, I appreciate their honesty when I needed them the most to make this very difficult decision. I also want to thank Dana and Lorenzo for being so understanding and supportive. I will continue to pursue the UFC belt with all of my heart!" - Facebook

MMA legend Dan "Hendo" Henderson was forced to pull out of UFC 151 main event bout due to a torn MCL ligament in his right knee. Hendo's Team Quest protege, Chael Sonnen, was offered to fight Jon Jones as a last minute replacement, but the reigning champ declined, by this triggering Dana White's decision to cancel the event.

Henderson mentioned in his the statement that he will not require a surgery, giving MMA fans around the world a glimpse of hope about the future encounter with Jon Jones. However, Henderson knows that he will have to prove a point inside the Octagon before re-claiming his shot at the title.

I would rather have all injured challengers/champions pull out of fights, instead of fighting injured.

@ Spider, I'd have to agree. If it is an injury worth mentioning after the fight (if you lose or get taken to five grueling rounds) it's worth pulling out for.

Whether we like it or not, some people will never hold a UFC belt.

Dammit Hendo.... He's like the guy you want to hate but can't.... Jones could learn a lot from this guy or just hire Caesar Gracie as his publicist.
