Dan Henderson: Jon Jones is not the most genuine guy

Speaking to Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com, legendary multi-class champion Dan Henderson touches on a variety of topics surrounding his blockbuster championship matchup with the dominating Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Henderson is thankful that Jones was not injured in his recent car crash and is healthy enough to face him come September 1st. However, he feels that Jones is not the most genuine guy out there, something that many fans and fighters such as Rashad Evans have spoke of. Feeling he's far from your average 40-year-old, Henderson looks to shock the world come UFC 151. When asked about Jones's overall game, Hendo replied:

"There's a number of things I can exploit. He hasn't fought anybody like me. I'm looking forward to testing that out. I'm gonna put him on his back. We've never seen him there."

Henderson also described his lengthy layoff, having not fought since his legendary slugfest with Shogun Rua at UFC 139. He stated he had wished to fight sooner but wanted it to be against Jones. Henderson noted that he has not started studying tape of Jones as of yet, but has respect for the lanky champion's MMA wrestling. Can Henderson dethrone the young, seemingly unstoppable king when September 1st rolls around?

I still dislike Hendo (for getting lucky against Fedor)

But I have to agree with him on this point: Jon Jones have not fought a fighter like him before ... Jones have fought better fighters than him : Shogun, Machida &Evans; ....

Im not a Jon Jones fan at all , but I cant wait to see him beat up Hendo badly.

Karma is a real thing, Hendo got Lucky against better fighter than him ( FEDOR) and go up in the rankings , but now he will have to pay the price of that high rank, and get beat up by a younger fighter in front of everyone

I was thinking the same thing after reading the article! Nice shirt..... Anyway, if anyone can pull this off, I hope Hendo can. Been a fan since I watched him KO The Axe Murderer in Pride!

The ranking system of fans and a national standing or an organization like Strike Force or the UFC. He came into title contentions from beating Shogun in the UFC. Not beating Fedor! On the topic of Fedor he isn't the same caliber fighter as JDS or Cain Or Carawin Fedor is over rated. And yes Randy Couture!

Yes.... Hendo can take this! If he will, that's another question but he most def. "CAN". I have high hopes for Dan pullling it off either way he's a legend of the sport and another "W" on his record should surprise no one!

Henderson is definitely not your average 40 year old fighter! I see things going his way if he can successfully impose his will consistently throughout the fight. This will hopefully take the fight out of the Champion and give Hendo even more momentum going into the later rounds. Easier said than done though.

He was polite for the most part during his time spent with Bisbing, when they were coaches. The Count did enough talking for the both of them!

In MMA anything is possible, therefore I will give Dan Henderson a 5% chance at beating Jones. After numerous and unsuccessful H-Bomb attempts in rounds one and two, Mr Dan Henderson will be sleeping like a baby. Jon Jones Via Sub - round 3.

    amen to that.....

Hendo thought the same exact thing when he fought the spider. He is lucky he tapped from the rear naked choke.

Hendo is out of his freakin mind to think he is the answer. He is smart...all he wants is a payday....Jones has all the same attributes as Silva but Jones is more agile and athletic....

Dunno if jones is more agile. he's bigger stronger and younger for sure, but i doubt his punches will back dan up and put him in danger the way andersons did

I have watched that fight several times and also watched it live. Dan won the frist round in the second round Hendo didn't seem like the same fighter Silva even seemed surprised that he was in control of the fight. It appeared to me that Dan gave his back up to one of the best rear naked chokes in the UFC. Makes me wonder?

I've watched that fight a number of times - it was cool to see Silva finally lose a round (I like Silva AND Hendo). I wonder what you mean by 'makes you wonder?'. Are you wondering if Hendo threw the fight or if he gassed out? If it's the former, you're crazy. If it's the latter, I think you're right on. Hendo's biggest issue is his inability to push the pace in the later rounds. It's either his willingness to sprint too hard or that he has a conditioning issue in some training camps. A fully in-shape and conditioned Hendo can beat anybody (even maybe JDS or Cain). He's got the wrestling and that chin on the D and the H-bomb and mad scramble awareness/power on the O.

No I'm not saying he threw the fight he was in a different state of mind maybe under estimated himself. Or the body triangle had him in a position of confusion or how to counter it and end up in a better position.

Jones might not have the best wrestling in MMA, but in combination with the leverage his height and reach generate, it might among the hardest to deal with.

I think Jones is better against an orthodox stance, which will make it easier to defend against the H-Bomb. But as long as Dan Henderson is conscious in a fight, I wouldn't write him off.

Dan is durable. You can beat on him and it won't show. I bet you Jones couldn't take nearly as half as much damage Hendo can take.

Hendo by TKO. He will push, get hit and eventually land his shots.

you might be right that Jones can't take half as much punishment as Dan, but here we are after Jones fought Shogun Rampage Machida and Evans and we are still ASKING if he can take a punch? man his striking defense must be VERY effective, this kid will retire and have taken the same amount of total damage as Hendo did in 1 year of fighting, Jones just doesn't get hurt.

Hendo is going to hurt jones bad if he can get on the inside. If he takes him down and get him against the cage Hendo all day. Jones has a lot more to worry about that Hendo. KO power, wrestling, experience, plus Hendo is a world wide champion in almost every organization he has been with and he has never been KO. Jones doesn't have KO power, he only has a good ground and pound with his elbows besides that I don't see much else. After this fight Hendo will be a complete legend of MMA.

Keep telling yourself that. Hendo will over commit with an h-bomb, Jones will take him down and either submit or tko him. Hendo is a beast and legend but he is running into a buzz saw in Jones.

I hope Dan puts this kid on his back and submits the shit out of him and makes him tap like the kid that he is,and maybe he will stop telling so many lies,or maybe its something that Jones has to grow out of or simply grow up.How old is he 22,yeh a lot of growing to do.

Hendo is a great fighter don't hate on a man for being an amazing fighter! Dan has held two belts in Pride at the same time if Hendo uses his Roman Greco wrestling and put Jon up against the cage. To neutralize Jones reach and speed put him on his back confuse him and to try and break his will. Dan has a rock head he still doesn't want a striking fight he will lose to Jones speed and reach. This is Going to be one of the best fights this year any MMA fan is just waiting on I think this is a good match up. Never count the old dog out it is not the size of the dog in fight it is the size of the fight in the dog!

Do What!? Rite on bud. Thats what I was saying earlier in the thread, that if Hendo can keep imposing his will, he may be able to break the younger, less experienced champ! But you said it so much better.

Dan is in his 40s he has always been in impressive condition he's not cutting that much weight he may also be adding weight. He comes to fight so in my mind no need to worry about his condition. He will be ready to go 5 rounds if need be! I just hope that he comes with the intentions to stay out of stand up fight.
