Cung Le: It Would Be An Honor To Fight The Legend Anderson Silva
UFC middleweight Cung Le will square off against long-time divisional stand-out Michael Bisping this weekend (Saturday, August 23, 2014) in his first fight since knocking out Rich Franklin in 2012. The win over “Ace” took place at UFC on Fuel TV 6, which was hosted for the first ever time in Macau, China.
Le will fight “The Count” at UFC Fight Night 48, in the promotion’s third visit to the Eastern province, after TUF: China (in which Le was chief coach/mentor) hosted the finals there earlier this year. For the former Strikeforce middleweight champion, the bout may serve as the end of his acting career if victorious, and he is already eyeing a big fight. Check out what the South Vietnamese Sanshou champion said while talking to the Great MMA Debate, transcribed by FOX Sports:
“He’s one of the greatest. Sometimes styles matchup perfectly against other styles and Anderson just happened to find his kryptonite in Chris Weidman. It just happened that his last fight ended really bad with that broken shin bone. I’m amazed that he’s back and ready to fight in January. For some reason if there’s an opportunity to fight Anderson, of course I would love to fight the legend. He is a legend, I look up to him and it would be an honor to fight him.”
Perhaps this match is not too unrealistic at this stage in Silva’s career; currently booked to face Nick Diaz at UFC 183, the former middleweight champion has already said he just wants fun fights right now. A battle with a dangerous stand up striker like Le may be pointless in the rankings, but thoroughly entertaining for the fans.
