Countdown To UFC 174: Rory MacDonald vs. Tyron Woodley

The dust is settled on last night’s (Sat., June 7, 2014) UFC Fight Night 42 from Albuquerque, but that doesn’t mean the UFC is settling down.

Heading into an insane summer schedule, UFC 174 is set to go down from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The jam-packed event features a pivotal welterweight co-main event between No. 2-ranked Rory MacDonald and No. 3 Tyron Woodley.

MacDonald put on a striking clinic to defeat Demian Maia at UFC 170 while Woodley defeated former interim champ Carlos Condit via injury TKO at UFC 171.

The UFC has released their traditional Countdown video in preparation for MacDonald vs. Woodley, a bout that was originally thought to be contested for the next shot at injured champion Johny Hendricks’ belt.

However, that gleaming distinction was given to the UFC on FOX 12 headliner between No. 1-ranked  “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler and No. 5 Matt Brown. Regardless, MacDonald vs. Woodley should be a very closely contested affair that firmly supplants the winner near the forefront of the UFC welterweight title picture.
