UFC featherweight contender Conor McGregor has put in a lot of work in the past two years, winning five straight in the UFC and making himself the most marketable name in the game. Wins over Dustin Porier and Max Holloway highlight his unbeaten promotional run, and coupled with his brash antics outside the octagon, ‘The Notorious’ got a shout for the title shot at UFC 189. Many an enemy McGregor has made on the way, and not often do we hear of lives being touched by the up-and-coming star.

Well, surfacing on the forums of Reddit, and captured by SportsJoe.ie, is a touching story from a young Irish fan of ‘The Notorious’, here it is in full:

The letter finishes by the McGregor supporter revealing that, because of The Notorious, he’s turned his whole life around by undergoing treatment for his drug addiction and is currently working with elderly people, providing palliative care. His dad is still in remission, two years on, and experiencing no pain.

So McGregor is rapidly emerging in the UFC’s featherweight division as a serious threat at the top level, but he has clearly touched this distraught man at a critical time. If there’s no title in the future of Conor McGregor, he should hold his head high with this achievement alone.
