Recently UFC interim champion Connor McGregor drew the ire of some of his native Irish fans when he wore a t-shirt with the ‘poppy’ symbol, a mark that has been associated with Remembrance Day on November 11, which commemorates fallen soldiers since the First World War.

Some Irish may have taken offense to the symbol, however, due to its close association with Great Britain and their repeated conflicts with Ireland throughout history.

McGregor isn’t having any of it, however, as he took to Facebook to clarify that the poppy signified all fighters from all wars, and he has done more to respect that by fighting for his country on a worldwide stage:
