Clay Guida To Face Dennis Bermudez At UFC On FOX 12 in Sacramento

No. 7-ranked UFC featherweight Clay “The Carpenter” Guida recently got back into the win column with an impressive victory over Japanese star Tatsuya Kawajiri in the co-main event of April’s UFC Fight Night 39 from Abu Dhabi, a welcome result after suffering his first-ever TKO loss at the hands of current title contender Chad Mendes at UFC 164.

“The Carpenter” returned to his gritty, hard-nosed style that made him a lightweight fan favorite to defeat Kawajiri in a “Fight of the Night”-winning effort, snapping a skid that saw him drop three out of his previous four.

Guida is looking to build on the momentum of that big win, but he’ll have to do against an opponent who is on an absolute surge. News broke from FOX Sports today that Guida will face off with No. 10-ranked Dennis Bermudez at UFC on FOX 12 on July 26 from Sacramento, California.

The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) veteran Bermudez was last seen dismantling Jimmy Hettes with a third round TKO at UFC 171 this March, marking his sixth straight win at 145 pounds. Bermudez recently called out for a fight with No. 6-ranked Dustin Poirier, but he got the next best thing in Guida.

With wins over Hettes, Steven Siler, and Max Holloway in his last three, it’s clear that Bermudez is ready to take on the top rungs of the talented FUC featherweight arena. That arduous task will begin this July against Guida.

Given the recent track record of both fighters, we should be in for a very exciting match-up. Is “The Carpenter” the one to end “The Menace’s” impressive run?
