Claudia Sonnen Is Worried About Her Son’s Safety While Filming TUF In Brazil

It’s fairly safe to say, Chael Sonnen isn’t  the most popular person in Brazil at the moment. The outspoken, self proclaimed ‘Peoples Champ’ has made many Brazilian enemies over the past few years. It all started with him calling out Anderson Silva for the middleweight title back in the summer of 2010.

Sonnen was coming off a unanimous decision win against Nate Marquardt, which put him into the no. 1 contender spot at 185lbs. Sonnen used Twitter to bash Anderson Silva, his teammates and basically every Brazilian. Here are a few tweets Sonnen made:

-Greetings from Sao Paulo! I’m learning the language: breakdancing in the Special Olympics is called capoiera and cocaine is called brunch

-Brazil likes to boast that it’s the power seat of MMA, yet it’s so-called champions bow to the man behind “Under Siege 2.”…….. Classy.

-I could write a dissertation on this experience:”The Tragic Interplay of Delusion, Insecurity, and Incompetence: the Nog Brothers’ Story”.

During a press tour, for his rematch with Silva, in Rio De Janeiro ‘The American Gangster’ was electrocuted with a shock pen. Sonnen says he doesn’t have a problem with being in Brazil to film the The Ultimate Fighter against rival Wanderlei Silva and he isn’t worried about the possibility of being attacked. His mother, Claudia, however is very worried.

Speaking to Mano a Mano recently, Sonnen’s mother pleaded with the Brazilian people not to let anyone hurt her son.

“I’m worried about his safety during filming there. I know you all are legal, decent people. My sister and her family received an exchange student from Brazil who has lived in her house when Chael was younger and they have shared many hours with each other.”

“That said, it only takes one to ruin it…and I pray that you not allow someone to reach Chael in person. He is a great coach and is eager to help the young fighters as much as he can.”

Dana White has said that security will be very ‘sophisticated’ and that Sonnen will not be in any danger while filming the series. The security for Sonnen is currently being prepared, so is the date and schedule of the show. Do you think Chael will be in any danger while in Brazil?

Who cares what Claudia says and I don't need to know her name. Of course I don't want anything bad to happen to sonnen but he's a d bag and a loud mouth. If anything does happen to him, so be it. He will be the cause of his own problems.

    • mauromina

      you are a I D I OT

      • watermelon fresh

I am because I don't sympathize with a Dbag. Also, take a writing class.

  • DeeJaySlyTee

Well, Sonnen is intelligent enough to make friends in Brazil.

Chael ran his mouth about Brazil and now he has to deal with it; gotta love MMA Karma.

How sad that the American Gangster's mommy has to beg the big bad Brazilian people to leave her son alone.

Chael does deserve to be hated by the Brazilians but he does not deserve to be physically harmed. This is entertainment. Chael is actually a really good dude and I'm sure he will help the young fighters on his team tremendously.

      • Brian Cox

Matt, I would no more want to see Chael physically harmed than you would. If he gets ridden by the Brazilians while he's there, that's another story. He has more than asked for it; all in fun, though. And I'm sure Chael is a nice guy. I would never question it.

Brian Cox: Fail is not a good guy.

          • MagicMMA

You my friend are a hater. I don't know why you find it amusing to call Sonnen 'fail', but you have a habit of writing hateful comments towards fighters. You're hate towards GSP and Sonnen is starting to just be annoying and unnessecary

          • UnderdogGreatness

Magic: I've never seen you on here before, but it's pretty obvious that you've been paying attention to me for a while now.

If you don't like my comments, you can always skip them. You don't have to read them. No one forces you to read them.

            Later :(

UDG, as I've never personally met the man, it would be unfair for me to state otherwise. I, as I believe most, see Chael and his MMA persona for what it is, an act and heck man, he's made a fortune through it.

And when we think of what he's accomplished / done with / made $ off of a 6 & 5 record, it's absolutely amazing. Never, in the history of MMA has a fighter with (basically) a 500 record, with few finishes, done so well or been so popular.

I give him credit for being the hype master he is. I take it all as an act. That said, I'd only take Chael seriously on the subject of MMA. I've heard him speak on other things and I don't believe he has a clue as to what he's talking about. His hype fails at that point.

Be careful, the loser, simple minded sonnen lover's will weak you for telling the truth.

  • Brasil

Maybe the exchange student bit up little boy Sonen and that is why he has a grudge against Brazilians. Thx for the info Mrs Sonen…And btw i think your boy will be ok….i think.

  • Buster Evans

I wonder if he goes to Anderson Silva's house for a BBQ

  • UnderdogGreatness

LOL – Fail Sonnen will finally learn to shut his mouth sometimes.

  • enjoylife321

Chael will arrive at the airport with a security team waiting. They will follow him to his hotel and ****** him everywhere in Brasil including the TUF training gym….Plus Chael will have 15 guys on his team who will be looking out for him…There is no danger to Chael Sonnen. Its just a publicity stunt.

  • IgorBg

Yes, he is a showman, but…when he talked about Brazilian kids playing in the mud, that was disgusting, that's when he definitely crossed the line. I'am not from Brasil, from Europe instead, but I will never forget that statemant. In my eyes he isn't a good guy, just pretend to be in last period.

    • Brian Cox

Igor…I remember his comments about Brazilian kids and "playing in the mud", too. I can actually hear his voice in my head, when I think about it.

Yeah, I agree. That statement was way the freak over the line and he should have been made to apologize for it. Dana really dropped the ball on that one. He was mocking poverty stricken children, for God's sake. That was pretty disgusting, I must admit.

I also think his crack about Silva's wife was over the line, too. If Silva needed a legitimate reason to bounce Sonnen's head off of the canvas, that was it. Making smart remarks about a fighter is one thing, but to extend it to his family or nation, even his fans, is over the line.

The mother should have been worried when her son was running his mouth endlessly against the Brazilians. Obviously speaks a lot about Chael's upbringing and his back ground. Its too late to worry now.
