Claudia Gadelha Feels ‘Disrespected’ By Jedrzejczyk vs. Letourneau Talk
UFC Strawweight contender Claudia Gadelha was all set for her second fight with Joanna Jedrzejczyk after a big UFC 190 win over Jessica Aguilar. Things got shook up a little when the injury bug struck ‘Claudinha’ and the promotion started talking about Valerie Letourneau stepping up to replace the Brazilian at UFC 195. The rematch that many fans have been waiting a long time for, may just get pushed back a little further.
Having fought to a razor close split decision with Jedrzejczyk, one that was debated endlessly after UFC on FOX 13, Gadelha has been gunning for the rematch diligently. Now with Dana White talking about subbing her out of the shot completely, Gadelha tells MMAFighting.com that she feels disrespected by the move:
“I don’t know anything about this, I read Dana White’s comments, but he hasn’t talked with us yet.”
“Joanna said she would be ready to fight me by December or January because of her injury, but she’s ready to fight someone else earlier,” Gadelha said. “I said I’d be ready by December or January because she was also injured, but if Dana White wants to give her another fight, do it.”
“Put another one in front of me and I will run through her. This fight will happen, but this is really disrespectful,” she continued. “The belt is mine. I beat her once, and I will beat her again. They are trying to take this away from me for a while, but my time will come.”
Gadelha’s chances of a potential title shot down the line are great if she can keep winning, and it all stems from her heated rivalry and first fight with the champion, a bout that many feel the Brazilian had won clearly.
With Letourneau now thrown in to the mix it could be another case of a top contender being ousted from the fickle title picture, or perhaps she will still be next in line.
