Cat Zingano’s Husband Mauricio Passes Away From Rumored Suicide

It’s been an incredibly tough year for No. 1 UFC women’s bantamweight contender Cat Zingano. After a rousing come-from-behind stoppage of recent title challenger Miesha Tate at the TUF 17 Finale last April, Zingano was forced to pull out of her scheduled TUF 18 coaching stint and title shot against UFC women’s champ Ronda Rousey with a torn ACL.

Her rehab was reportedly going well in preparation for her proposed title shot, but Rousey was booked on an incredibly quick turnaround to face No. 4-ranked Sara McMann at UFC 170 in February. Zingano was left without an opponent for the time being, but all of that pales in comparison to the sad news of today.

Zingano’s husband Mauricio has reportedly passed away. Zingano posted the news with a message of love on her Facebook page. FOX Sports writer Mike Chiappetta tweeted a confirmation of the sad finding today:

Zingano passed away from a rumored suicide according to a report from The Examiner. Mauricio Zingano was a talented Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach in Broomfield, Colorado, and all classes at Team Zingano-Blackhouse MMA Broomfield and Brighton have been cancelled for the day.

Clear details surrounding his death are unknown at this time. The news is extremely sad and disappointing for the up-and-coming fighter, who was set to take the UFC by storm once healed from her unfortunate injuries. Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences go out to Cat and her family in this trying time.
