Carlos Condit Looking For Rematch With Tyron Woodley
Former welterweight title challenger Carlos Condit suffered a huge setback in March when he was stopped by Tyron Woodley in the co-main event of UFC 171.
A loss on his record was bad enough, but even worse was the way the defeat came around. After a fairly close opening round, Woodley took Condit down in the second and landed awkwardly on his knee; resulting in the former interim champion tearing his ACL and partially tearing his meniscus.
Condit now has to sit on the sidelines and watch the rest of the division move ahead while he sits out and recovers. According to the 30-year old Albuquerque native, it has been frustrating:
“It’s frustrating being out all-around,” Condit said via MMAJunkie. “Seeing Matt Brown going and getting the title eliminator fight (against Robbie Lawler) when I was supposed to fight him. Seeing all these guys that I’m in the mix with just moving up. I just have to watch as a spectator at this point and I have to focus of making myself better and getting to a place where I can compete again.”
Prior to his loss against Woodley, Condit had moved himself into title contention with a vicious TKO over Martin Kampmann which followed a highly-controversial loss to the current champion Johny Hendricks at UFC 158.
“”The Natural Born Killer” will now have to climb back up the welterweight ladder when he makes his return to the Octagon and he has a couple of fights on his mind. One of them being a rematch with “The Chosen One”.
“I’m going to get that rematch,” Condit said. “Whether it’s my first fight back or it’s down the road, I’ll get that rematch. I want to rematch everybody I’ve lost to. I’m 2-0 in rematches in my career or something like that.”
Condit doesn’t think he will be ready to return until early next year, so don’t be expecting him to be matched up against anyone anytime soon. With Woodley having just fought recently, losing a decision to Rory MacDonald, it’s likely he will be booked up again soon.
