Cain Velasquez believes Daniel Cormier can beat Jon Jones

At a recent media luncheon, the former UFC heavyweight champion, who is looking to reclaim his title when he faces Junior Dos Santos at UFC 155 in December, spoke highly of AKA teammate Daniel Cormier and suggests that the winner of the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix can defeat Jon "Bones" Jones.
"I think he wants to drop down [to light heavyweight]," Velasquez said according to MMA Fighting. "He's been wanting that fight with Jon Jones for a while now. We've definitely talked about it. [When] he does come into the UFC, he can make 205 [pounds]."
There has been much talk about Cormier moving down in weight. He's an undersized heavyweight who Dana White believes would be a great addition to the 205 division. However, there has been long known that Cormier has kidney issues that causes much trouble for him to cut weight. He currently weighs in just north of 230 lbs and a cut to 205 may suit him better if he can avoid another kidney issue like he had back in the 2008 Olympics that caused him to withdraw from the competition.
But Cormier has been putting it into the atmosphere that he may be able to make the cut if he's offered a fight with Jones. Velasquez believes that he will be able to do it.
"We'll clean up his diet really good," Velasquez offerend. "Because the way his diet is, it isn't the cleanest. He's going to have to work a little bit at it, for sure. He just has to do it smart. The diet needs to be on-point. He can't be messing around with that kind of stuff. I think he can do it."
And if he can, the results of a Jones-Cormier fight would be elementary.
"He'd beat him," said Velasquez. "He's fast. He's powerful. He has the best wrestling out there. I think he beats him wherever they're at."

Being a team mate, Cain would also say Cormier could beat batman.
Jones reach would give him too much trouble.
Why risk his body when its only a matter of time til jones starts testing the waters at heavyweight. He might as well just wait imo.
Really? Wait how long? Jones has no reason to move up to HW anytime soon. What is he gonna do, pack 20 pounds of muscle in a hurry? You're crazy man. If Jones can make the weight with no problems and he continues to do this well at LHW, I don't buy the idea of counting on Jones to be a heavyweight anytime worth waiting around.
I agree Jones moving to HW is more likely than DC losing his spare tire he has and he risk his health big time by cutting weight with his fried kidneys

Jones apparently said sometime ago he would think about going to HW in possible 2013 or 2014. Thatsw a long way away.
Also these guys dont take in account that once you loose weight/ massive weight, you will loose power...DC comes into fights at 235 and up. And he suppose to be in good shape with cardio. are you kidding!! He is going to go down to 205? that isnt water weight...he is 5'11 with a 71' reach....
Lets see, he is giving up a 13inch reach....oh thats right he is lighting fast....who is stupid enough to believe that? JJ will kep his distance and pick him apart, slowly...I dont know if jones will knock him out but DC will make a mistake, he will get submitted...
If Cormier lost the extra fat he would probably only weigh around 210-215. I can't see a cut of 5-10 lbs being dangerous for him.
This is a fight I would love to see.
Part of the reason I would love to see it is because Jones is so dominant--who is there to challenge him at LHW? More MW's?

Impressed with Cormier's win over Barnett , however I don't see a 240lb fighter making a serious run at the light heavyweight belt. At that weight he'd be running on fumes ... anyone remember Florian at 145? Not the same fighter
Yeah but Barnett got his a@@kicked because all he does is take people down/GnP/then submitt them. He couldnt take DC down, not once. That was the end of Barnett, because he cant fight stadning up and DC can....

What has Cormier done to make any of you think he could beat Jones? The only guy that has came close to beating Jones is Belfort due to slapping on a great arm bar. Jones will learn from that and be even harder to beat. Cormier has a decent all round game from what we have seen but to compare him to Jones and say he can beat him is putting the cart before the horse.
Let's see if he can make weight and beat a top 5 LHW. Give him Evans or Hendo or Machida. I doubt he'd beat any of them.

First of all...DC is going to go through HELL trying to knock off 30+ pounds from his regular Fighting Weight. Not his walking around weight but weigh in weight. I dont think DC with be able to do that....He has never been that light, even in High School...
