Brian Stann On TJ Dillashaw Leaving TAM: You’ve Got To Be Selfish

Brian Stann

Ever since UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw announced that he has parted ways with Team Alpha Male and will begin his next camp with a new team (Team Elevation) in Colorado, everyone has made their opinion known.

For fighters, the gym fees to train at that said gym can be costly. For a UFC champion one would think it would not be, but in fact it is. Some think that he made the smart and business savvy decision while some disagree with that theory and think he should have stayed at the gym that transformed him into a champion. Mind you that his head coach (Duane Ludwig) left Team Alpha Male and went to Team Elevation.

He was made an offer that he could not refuse thus he made the decision to move gyms.

Former UFC middleweight and now UFC commentator Brian Stann agrees with Dillashaw and his decision to move gyms.

“I think that TJ’s making the right decision, and here’s why, first and foremost in this sport you’ve got to be selfish,” Stann said Sirius XM Fight Club. “It is something that held me back a little bit in my career and at the end of the day this is about how much money you can make over the longest period of time you can do it. If TJ Dillashaw feels like that is the better environment for him to go to and make as much money as he can and maximizes opportunities then he’s got to do it, whether it hurts some friend’s feelings or not. His family and paying his bills to take care of his family come first, ahead of all else.”

Dillashaw is scheduled to fight Dominick Cruz in January at UFC Fight Night 81.
