The Bellator MMA middleweight world championship live weigh-ins, from the Cabaret Theater at the Mohegan Sun Casino, Uncasville, Connecticut, will take place at 5 p.m. EST, today.
Saturday night’s televised card, which begins on SPIKE TV at 8 p.m. EST, will feature Alexander Shlemenko defending his 185 Bellator belt against last year’s tournament runner-up Brett Cooper, as well as the opening bouts of the new middleweight tournament, plus 1 lightweight feature fight, as well.
As the UFC has been flooding the air waves of late, with a combination of great free and pay-per-view cards, this weekend’s Bellator event kicks off a heavy couple of months’ worth of programming for the junior promotion. As Bellator has put on some very fine and exciting events, featuring many high-level fighters, the upcoming bouts should do well as a lead-up to the promotion’s inaugural PPV event this November 2nd, which features a slew of Bellator championship fights , as well as the main card feature of Tito Ortiz vs. Rampage Jackson.
Update: The results are in and all 22 fighters made weight, but there was an alteration to the card. Andreas Spang was removed from the event by the commission; Brennan Ward will replace him in the tournament.
