Anthony Pettis admitted to hospital for staph infection; Cerrone fight still on

Anthony Pettis‘ quest for a UFC title shot has been derailed multiple times for a number of reasons. If it isn’t a current champion tangled in a trilogy, it’s an injury.

The latest hiccup for the last lightweight champion in World Extreme Cagefighting comes in the form of a staph infection that sent Pettis to the hospital and brought about immediate concern as to whether he would be able to make his date with Donald Cerrone in January.

Fortunately, the staph infection is minor and required precautionary treatment.

The news of the infection was confirmed on MMA Weekly Monday evening as Pettis’ manager, Mike Roberts, stated that Pettis was admitted to a Milwaukee hospital. 

With the infection being caught early, Pettis won’t have to worry about the complex recovery that fighter like Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal had to deal with for months. They are hoping that Pettis will be back home and in training camp sooner rather than later.

Although the fight with Cerrone hasn’t been formally announced, it is expected to take place in late January at an as yet announced event.
